Go, if you want to go
Don't want to lie here while you cry yourself to sleep
Say what you want to say
'Cause I can see by your face that something's not the Same

Hey hey everything's okay
I love you more than I can say
But we can't stay the same
Yeah

Do what you want to do
Don't want to keep you here holding so tight you can't breathe
Stay not another minute stay
'Cause I don't think I want to live here dying all alone

Hey hey everything's okay
I love you more than I can say
But we can't stay the same
Yeah

Well I've been thinking about the words I've said before
When I was locked outside and pounding on the door
I wish I said I'm sorry sweetheart I can't be
The man I lead you to believe that I would be
Somewhere deep inside I know something's wrong
I know you're never safe around me anymore

Hey hey everything's okay
I love you more than I can say
But we can't stay the same
Yeah

i love this new song im realy looking foward to Under the boards. saves the day always has and always will be my fav band. as always the lyrics are just wonderful and as always the guitars and bass and drums are wonderful saves the day never ceases to put out a great cd.

aas for the meaning ..i think chris is going a through a divorce with his wife i think in reverie begins to tell of this with a few song and sound the alarm its obvious there trouble and this cd is so obvious that almost every song talks about a bad relationship..bye bye baby..whe im not there..get fucked up...

i think the meaning of the song though is simply he still loves his wife but they just cant be together or stay the same they way things are and he wants to either change or leave her but hes saying its ok he loves her almost like its a good thing its ending also the bridge tells thats hes the one at fault hes changed and he cant be the man she though he'd be anyways great song best band this cd's gunna rullleeee

This song is amazing. I think it's about a couple who doesn't want to accept that they're falling apart.

This song is probably about a relationship, but I can't help but think everytime I hear him sing "can't stay the same" or things like that i the newer songs that he is actually referring to the music. When In Reverie came out, I remember people comparing it to the old stuff, and not liking it as much. It was just natural progression. I think sometimes he is saying that you can't stay the same, you have to change, it's natural. So with Sound the Alarm, it sounded like they were writing music similar to their older stuff, but the new record is slowly getting away from that.

Hey, way to call out some dualism, YeahsodoI. I'd been taking the story arc fairly literally, but you bring up a good point. I still think that "In Reverie's" apparent failure kind of hurt Chris's feelings, like what happened with Rivers when "Pinkerton" tanked. That sort of thing.

what kind of fan would you be if you didn't like their album? not a very good one in my opinion. well, i just started listening to them at the end of last year, so i don't really listen to their old stuff so i wouldn't know. but this song got my liking them. and in case you guys cared, my other favorite songs are at your funeral and cars and calories.

anyway, i think the lyrics mean exactly what the first person said.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
