Knives, Snakes and Mesquite Lyrics
Listen through the walls. The wave has got to break soon.
Only so many nails to a room, only so much could it support.
The floorboards sigh to the sway of the dance that could keep going
All night and peel away the dawn.
And I am a peach down in the forest of knives and snakes and mesquite,
Where all is a dream, all eyes on me, and I bite my nails till they bleed.
I see your claws come off and your knees come out
Like an iceberg, like a secret offer.
Sailing the waves of that icy morning,
While all in between theres a new wind blowing.
And I am a peach down in the forest of knives and snakes and mesquite,
Where all is a dream, all eyes on me, and I bite my nails till they bleed.
(The prevailing winds from the east) I will set my sights on defeat.
Only so many nails to a room, only so much could it support.
The floorboards sigh to the sway of the dance that could keep going
All night and peel away the dawn.
Where all is a dream, all eyes on me, and I bite my nails till they bleed.
Like an iceberg, like a secret offer.
Sailing the waves of that icy morning,
While all in between theres a new wind blowing.
Where all is a dream, all eyes on me, and I bite my nails till they bleed.
(The prevailing winds from the east) I will set my sights on defeat.

I love this line: "I see the claws come off and your knees come out", although he could also be saying "clothes come off". It almost sounds like he is with the rest of the verse, "like a secret offer." If you look at it the first way it could be viewed like animal vs. human which still kind of goes to the sex theme. Also, there's lots of imagery of fruit and animals which could suggest a little bit of sin. I kind of think the song is about a relationship where the guy maybe wants intimacy and his partner doesn't reciprocate, hence the "iceberg" imagery and the closing line "I will set my sights on defeat." Regardless, this is a great song.
