Straight Lyrics
who is friends with my ex-boyfriend's
high school friend
christian
a very nice gentleman
but i can't remember him
good god forgive me
i'm out of my element
i've forgotten which people i like
and which people i hate
and i'm waiting for someone to shake me and say
hey bitch
you're wish is my command
just smile and nod
we'll under-
standing in front of the sink
i believe i've been tricked
into thinking i'm sick
when i'm actually generous
let the thing run its course
and in time you'll look back
thinking god, how hilarious
i've forgotten which ones i should skip and which ones
i should take
and i'm waiting for someone to shake me and say
hey bitch
don't quit
you're almost dead
don't give up now
make friends instead
of going out
go home instead
of going down
go back to bed
who's convinced i'm alive
and i try to explain
the poor guy
that it's way too late
but i can't relate
i would like to get closer
but christ all the time it takes
i've forgotten which feelings to show
and which feelings to fake
and i'm waiting for someone to shake me and say
hey bitch
nice tits
you're broke but then
you're rich in love
you're great in bed
you'll see the world
you'll knock 'em dead
and all the thick books that you've read
will count for nothing in the end
is this the name for the song? the only recording i've been able to hear is on imeem and in that amanda says its not named.
it is going to be on the new album? i really love this song.
classic amanda songwriting about identity crisis/confusion/a degree of self-hatred. as demonstrated in the 6th stanza, people care for her, but she is convinced its "too late" to save her from whatever mad crisis she's found herself in. amazing. love love love it.

i wish this was on the new record! it would really give us a long and exciting song! i love this song!
in the recording i heard, it was named Hey Bitch, but she asked the audience to give her suggestions for other names.
This (or a version of it) is available on the digital download/preorder of Who Killed Amanda Palmer. There, it's titled Straight (With Strings). A great song.
I like this version better than the lyrics that come with the version on the record download :/ But I like it with strings, so I guess I can't have everything. It's streets ahead of everyone else, either way.
this is kind of like "first orgasm"; not having the energy to spend to maintain personal relationships with people and just drifting away.. Lack of time seems to be a common excuse to these two songs; reality, though, shows it's simply fear to face the world, spend something on it and then losing, fear of being let down. Why would you bother? you can "take matters into your own hands" as in first orgasm, or wait for someone to do someone to get you out of that state. This song is, then, fairly more optimistic, as she assumes there is actually a way to save her from that numb comfort and she assumes that she needs others, but she still doesn't have the will to start the change that must take place in her life.
