Pestilence Lyrics
A flourishing plague consumes the masses
Emaciated figures dying in the streets
Boils and sores devour their flesh
Vital organs turn to sludge
This inescapable fate captures humanity
With ever hour more victims fall
Mass hysteria becomes the protocol
Civilization turns to savagery
With no hope for a cure in sight
Science becomes futile in the chaos
Disease ridden humans play out their final days as ravenous animals
A bastardized version of man which cannot be reversed
Limbs and appendages rot and fall off
Leaving hideous creatures in tormented hell
Suffering life forms await death in the misery of defeat
Mass graves filled with diseased bodies
Spreading sickness posthumously
Emaciated figures dying in the streets
Boils and sores devour their flesh
Vital organs turn to sludge
This inescapable fate captures humanity
With ever hour more victims fall
Mass hysteria becomes the protocol
Civilization turns to savagery
With no hope for a cure in sight
Science becomes futile in the chaos
Disease ridden humans play out their final days as ravenous animals
A bastardized version of man which cannot be reversed
Limbs and appendages rot and fall off
Leaving hideous creatures in tormented hell
Suffering life forms await death in the misery of defeat
Mass graves filled with diseased bodies
Spreading sickness posthumously

I can't help myself. Since i have seen the movie "I Am Legend", i always have to think of it when i'm reading the lyrics.
I think people look too deep for the Faceless's lyric's. You have to remember, they are death metal, and they're lyrics are pretty straight forward. Its not that they seek to elevate you to a higher level of thinking, but rather paint a graphic picture. This song obviously describes an uncurable plague striking the world and it killing everything in its path. People lose rationality and chaos sets in. It could very well be a reference to the Black death of the middle ages. But people just look too deep into to lyrics when theres nothing there (unless your like KrackedJars and smoke some very good bud, rofl. Forreal, your explanation for An Autopsy was alot deeper than i though it could go. Toke well my friend ;))
Some world of people is suddenly hit with a disasterous disease. It's effects are devastating as well as intensely violent and graphic....it's completely unexpected. Life, whatever it was beforehand, has completely shifted into this horrifying terror and it nothing can really stop it. Everything that once was, is now diminishing into chaos before the blink of an eye.
I think the chorus...."A bastardized version of man which cannot be reversed...." simply means that man is now hopeless to this plague and there is nothing that can be done. Everything that slowly dies awaits death and once dead, a sickness is spread to everything of the opposite.
I think the meaning of this song briefly touches on the fact that everything we have can go bad within a second and, in some cases, it can be intense and violent....not quick and easy.

I think this song would be absolute perfect, if there wasnt these gay clean vocals. I mean i dig clean vocals, really, but here, they are just unnecessary.
I agree with all of the comments about disease and such, but I think it's more specifically about the plague (The Black Death)- references to boils, falling limbs, people dying by the masses (about 60% of Europe's population died). This plague caused people to live a life similar to a morbid mutation of "Carpe Diem," in anger, depression, mistrust- ravenous animals. What really points to the plague, however, is the line, "Science becomes futile in the chaos," which I think is a clear reference to the blow medieval science took because of the plague- doctors became ultimately untrusted, as they could not do anything for anyone.
Then again, it could be a prediction of something similar...who knows? It could also be an extended metaphor, or a combination of the three.
zombies dude. haha i totally think of zombies when i hear this song.
THANK YOU!!!! I'm not the only idiot out there that thnks this song is about Zombies.
This is a prediction of a future that awaits us, people will despise each other, no one is to be trusted, we are the disease, tearing each other apart, poisoning each other, killing, paranoia, we will be the end of us.
does anybody know the last line?
