Shrinking Violet Lyrics
Oh, my shrinking violet
I left my basket of impatience at your door
I brought my tulips for your two lips
But the bulb don't burn anymore
Ain't it a shame just how much rain we got
The April showers blot out the sun
So much dear that your roots still rot
And we're waiting til the kingdom come
Oh, my shrinking violet
I left my basket of impatience at your door
I brought my tulips for your two lips
But, the bulb don't burn anymore
The night chain rain will fall on us
The daffodil's struck down
But, in the morning, glorious
I will wait until the kingdom come
I will wait until the kingdom come
I left my basket of impatience at your door
I brought my tulips for your two lips
But the bulb don't burn anymore
The April showers blot out the sun
So much dear that your roots still rot
And we're waiting til the kingdom come
I left my basket of impatience at your door
I brought my tulips for your two lips
But, the bulb don't burn anymore
The daffodil's struck down
But, in the morning, glorious
I will wait until the kingdom come
I will wait until the kingdom come

I can't believe no one else loves this song as much as I do.
I love the double entendres, for the first thing. impatiens/impatience, two lips/tulips. Violet as a person and a flower. Beautiful.
this is obviously some sort of break up song. The Shrinking Violet obviously shrunk away from the relationship. He probably thought he did everything right, leaving flowers at her door and whatnot, but the bulb burned out, and the light went out. he is also, perhaps, somewhat impatient. maybe he doesn't know exactly what happened. in any case, rain came - something bad happened - and Violet's roots, and her integrity in the relationship rotted. He says it like he believes she is also of the same opinion, "we're waiting," calling her "my," and "Dear" as if they are still close. Maybe he is not entirely devastated, saying that it is a shame that their relationship falters as if one would say it is a shame that it is raining.
And he is still waiting for Violet. For her roots to regrow and for her to come back to life and come back to him. The rain lasts the night and inundates all it comes across, from the roots of Violet to the weed of a daffodil. But he believes that even after the bad, it will get better. the sun will come out in the morning.
does it? Who knows. But he'll wait for kingdom to come for it to happen.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
It's basket of impatiens. It's a type of flower.
Wonderful song!
