The Galway Girl Lyrics

Well I took a stroll on the old long walk
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
I met a little girl and we stopped to talk
Of a fine soft day -I-ay-I-ay
And I ask you friend, what's a fella to do
Cuz her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom with a Galway girl

We were halfway there when the rain came down
Of a day -I-ay-I-ay
And she asked me up to her flat downtown
Of a fine soft day -I-ay
And I ask you friend, what's a fella to do
Cuz her hair was black and her eyes were blue
So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl
Oh and I lost my heart to a Galway girl

When I woke up I was all alone
With a broken heart and a ticket home
And I ask you now, tell me what would you do
If her hair was black and her eyes were blue
Cuz I've traveled around I've been all over this world
Boys I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl

I love this song, and yep, I lost my heart to a Galway girl back in the days. It didn't last, but every time I hear this song, I think back with a smile! :-)

This is my favourite song. I been listening to it for years, great to see it become so popular in Ireland in recent years. Steve Earle is the man. "And I ask you friend, what's a fella to do Cuz her hair was black and her eyes were blue So I took her hand and I gave her a twirl Oh and I lost my heart to a Galway girl" I lived in Galway for a while had a similar experience. No regrets though

I think that this song is about a traveler guy who fell in love with a Irish girl on an one-night-stand. She left the guy after the fancy night.

Only a suggestion.

This is an awesome song. Traveling abroad this past spring, I had the opportunity to hear it a few times while out at the pubs in Tralee. There is something special about hearing this song in an Irish pub with a Guinness in hand. Ireland really is a magical place. I cannot wait to go back.
