I will ask you this.
Can you spare a kiss?
Can you picture this coming from my lips?
A whisper from miles away.
I will send you this
And seal it with a kiss.
Can you take this lipstick and lightplay,
And carry it miles away?

I will walk 'cross the ocean
To where the sky meets the sea,
Give this ghost my devotion,
To keep you from me.

Just say goodbye.
I live, and i'll die.
Hooked on a star, enraptured by the sky,
In love with a satellite.

I can now admit I'm lost in loveliness.
Who could just resist distant beauty?
Find me if you find a way.
You may love it if you tried this detachment.
From this distance the beauty burns brightly.
It's warmer from worlds away.

Just say goodbye.
I live, and i'll die.
Hooked on a star, enraptured by the sky,
In love with a satellite.

I'll stare forever,
And love whatever breaks my heart.
Oh, oh, oh.
I'll stare forever.
And love whatever breaks my heart.
Oh, oh, oh.

Just say goodbye.
I live, and i'll die.
Hooked on a star, enraptured by the sky.

Oh!

Just say goodbye.
I live, and i'll die.
Hooked on a star, enraptured by the sky,
In love with a satellite.

(Oh, oh, oh.)

Just say (just say) goodbye.
I live (I live) and i'll die.
Hooked on a star, enraptured by the sky,
In love with a satellite.

Ive been a bit naughty and found the whole album on bitTorrent - it's amazing. Snuff on Digital is my fave atm! But I'm gonna be loyal and buy the proper album when it hits shelves!

Despite its upbeat sound, I think the lyrics are a bit of a stab at people who are "in love" with celebrities, "stars" they can never reach, people who are beautiful from a distance but could be "ugly" up close (bad perosnality, or hidden behind too much makeup, etc). And then being heartbroken by the truth, or when a "star" has a boyfriend/girlfriend or gets married.

I think it is the opposite perspective of "Snuff on Digital".

To me this song is about being in love with someone on the internet. You know you probably will never meet this person, and you don't really know who this person really is, but you love what he/she is showing to you. You love this situation but at the same time it hurts you -I'll stare forever and love whatever breakes my heart-

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
