I love that. This is such a good song. I got in trouble the other day for drawing my interpretation of this in my assignment notebook during class. Oops.
I think the song is about accepted who you are, or at least trying to. You are't perfect (swan) but you're not hideous. It's about letting everything go, "walking past" the people that did you wrong, passing the places in your life, coming to grips with things. Things can be okay.

To me, Its about finding love-that person that helps you find yourself and makes everything alright.
i think this song is about human beings in general (swans) and how people should realise that we are all people and to treat each other with respect (we fit into each other we are russian dolls, where somethwhere in the center fits a beeting heart) hes saying that people have to search to realize this, and to be good people. you can also see hes generally asking if people can be well better people and not be so self-absorbed or heartless (are you defined by all the things you want? or did you get caught up in the things that you are not?) then the last first he says that there is more good in humanity than bad and that "we are flying higher than our counterparts" our goodness dominates our bad qualities and that realising that we have each other will make earth more peaceful*
*i think the imaginary place he is talking about is a place with only good ..or peace
strangely more positive than most of their stuff. I love this song. great vocals and imagery.
