Mind Over Time Lyrics
I will still be up by fall
I'll still be up by fall either way
Still be up by fall
I will be still to hear the call either way
Street of thought in all your bones
Hold your place and save your throne
Lie awake supine and golden
Wait for grace, it's time
Mind over time
Mind over time
Sleight of fate and borrowed clothes
Songs of places no one knows
Draped in lace we all lean over
To greet the great, it's time
Mind over time
Mind over time
[It's Paul (STATIC), and, um, it would've been really good to see you, man.
Uh, I don't know if I've been away. (STATIC)
But uh, you didn't stay long so I just wanted to tell you that it would've been good to see you, you know? [Good to see you]
And uh, it's a shame it didn't work out.
But uh, if we could've gotten together for that little recording, it might've been a good experience.
But eh, maybe after the holidays, um.
Listen, call me anytime, please.
If you're sure you're not too busy
If you ever need to, just call me, right?
Bye. Hope your holidays go well.]
Street of thought in all your bones
Hold your place and save your throne
Lie awake supine and golden
Greet the great, it's time
Mind over time
Mind over time
It's mind over time
It's your mind over time.
I'll still be up by fall either way
Still be up by fall
I will be still to hear the call either way
Hold your place and save your throne

To me, this seems to have one relatively simple meaning. Whenever I listen to it, the same word comes to mind. Patience. Just sit back and wait, see what's around the bend.
a beautiful song! the first time I heard it, a friend's mother died..for me personally there's a wire between life and death. the sing is so mystic. first someone should complete the lyrics.
"It's cool (STATIC), and, um, it should be really good to see you, man. Uh, I don't know if I've been away. (STATIC) But uh, I didn't stay long since I just wanted to tell you that it was good to see you, you know? [Good to see you] And uh, it's a shame it didn't work out. But uh, we get together for that little recording, it might've been a good experience. But eh, maybe after the holidays, um. Listen, call me anytime, please. If you're sure you got a really big issue. If you ever need to, just call me, right? Bye. Happy holidays, good luck."
I'm german so my english is not that good, but I'll try my best to specify my thoughts.
In my interpretation the song is about death. maybe "life" after death, after the funeral.
I will still be up by fall I'll still be up by fall either way Still be up by fall I'll be still to hear the call either way
the first par confuses me a lot. maybe the dead person "says" that.perhaps the person died in this season. centenary of his date of death? so he'll be up,everyone will remind him, cause it's his date. the season fall is a sad season. simple: the trees are LOSING there sheets.the sheets are a part of them.not sure about this part.
Street of thought In all your bones
-point:life after death If you're dead,so you have eternal time to think(streets of thougt) about your past life. bones/mortal remains ...when you are dead your body will rotten and then there'll be only bones left.
Hold your place and Save your throne
when you're dead and you're in your grave you can't move.thus you hold your place. you save your last resting-place/ or better permanent site. it's for the eternity it's kinda your personally place, you're the "king" of that resting-place. king/ throne. with the action of lying there you're saving that from another "enemies" like the kings were saving there kingdom/throne from enemies.
Lie awake supine and golden Wait for grace
it's describes the situation in the coffin. you're awake because you're waiting for grace. as i before said...it's a thougt about life after death.
Sleight of fate And borrowed clothes
i think sleight of fate is clear. borrowed clothes...that confuses me a little,
Songs of places No one knows
symbolic meaning for nescience. no one knows what after death will be.maybe "songs of places" is about the paradise after death like in the bible.songs=music it's a kind of art/creativity--fantasy?"no one knows" there aren't any proofs/the lively people are hoping that they will join pradise after death.the narrrator has not the chance to tell them the truth...the narrator is disapointed about his situation at the moment.
Draped in lace we all lean over To greet the great
lace is an expensive material.you were poor in your life, it's borrowed from someone. the great are the rich people/people who equaled some status in there life time. you're good dressed to greet them.after death you have no money but you have your clothing.
I know my thoughts are really insane. Would be good to read some others interpretations. sorry that my interpretation is mixed up.i'm not content with my writing...I need more synoms and words to describe that, thats really poor..
one of the beautifulest songs.... what do you think it means? i have never quite figured it out. i guess that our minds are connected to time in many ways and sometimes time is even divided into actual time and "psychological time" because of just how much our experience of "time" is a subjective phenomenon.
mind over time.... putting time at the mercy of mind, above time. our minds are a "time capsule", memories are stored, and revisited in the imagination. the mind is quite defined by its defiance of time. the song feels very sentimental and melancholy, but it's saying that it needn't surrender to passing away....the mind is our way beyond death. the distance between now and then that we feel can be closed, we do not have to let time take everyone away from us. we are in a way like god over time, within our minds we can travel through time, and in our mind we have a place, and we have a throne.. we might not play the role of such a dignified and majestic being yet, but we will, and really we are a more like that than we feel and time.. is under mind.. the time for taking our throne, for mind over time, is really whenever we awaken our minds and ourselves to the truth, which come to the foreground of our experience is like day coming around, the light of consciousness beyond all appearances shining through them, as they lean over to "greet the great" who is "lying awake", "supine and golden". awakened to its place and its minds place beyond the finite, mortal, cold hard reality that had appeared to dominate us from the outside through space and time. we were attached to our bones, and lost in streets of thought, but we're starting to overcome the illusions of existence in physical forms going this way and that way, traveling in lines from place to place.. it is all in our minds, our minds can go forwards and backwards and need have no linear unfoldment either way. anything goes. "it's your time over mind".... as if to say that over time we become accustomed to the minds place as our own and the mind becomes accustomed to bending time and space rules, as we detach from the world and the mind develops becoming in some ways "insane", as it screws with the rules, and we turn into ourselves more to our memories and dreams, and we create our own worlds such is our mind over time. it's our mind over time. so we greet the great, that is awakened, golden light like the sun.. who we are but who we had forgotten in our finite self within the mind of the great one.
you might say mind runs "over time", sort of like the after life, and through the mind like a gateway find our way into the light beyond, the great one in whom all arises as many thoughts within mind, which are as close to real places and people outside as it gets, as a whole under the light of "the great" the whole might be the household referred to in the bible, in which are many mansions. the one who may be called god need not be the light the moth burns itself in, why not remain in the mind, somewhere between "real life" and total cessation? we needn't burn into nothing in the light at the end of the tunnel or "the road". we might realize that we are the great one itself, on the deepest level or being.... but sentiment and love for others, as one of them, and not as god, would be a sad if it was all dissolved into one self or light in time.. and mind being over time .. why not bend the rules and, while the great one may manifest as the great Other and we relate to it as such, while knowing the deeper view in which we aren't and the other isn't, and there is but one self, seen now as the other.. or not knowing that deep down.. whatever.. anyway i suppose there may come a time when that one light does burn bright and illuminates the mind to be somewhat transparent to that without destroying everything. i think that what continues to arise in the mind, under the great one, should the mind be awakened to it, and the throne be taken over time.. what continues in such a light is more important than the light alone. the squiggle between the alpha dot and the omega dot should never end in complete oblivion, or stop squiggling around even if there's omega, some great white light at the end of the tunnel. what then arises may be in a pretty interesting state of being free yet in form?

i think interpol must model their music after the qualia of their dreams... this song makes me cry.
what does this song mean to you?
The not so fun side of coke.
This is beautiful. I was hoping OLTA would be more lyrically intense than it was, don't get me wrong, it was wonderful. As for me, I haven't got the slightest clue as to what it means. Perhaps it's someone waiting for someone else, like a good friend, or loved one. And they know it will be a long time, so they force themselves to cope with it in their mind...
I'm curious as to what other material came out of the love to admire sessions. This is far above the majority of OLTA material. The voicemail in the middle gives such a feeling of separation and alienation. The guy talking keeps saying "if you ever need anything," and "it was just so great to see you, hope things are well," definitly fits into the whole strung out on coke / being in a rough place with substance use thing. Lines like "greeting the great" give it a pretty profound feeling as well. Strung out on coke, estranged from former friends, contemplating the infinite?
