Peterborough Lyrics

I met you in Peterborough for an hour
But you weren’t the same any more
Your eyes were tired, the fire was out and your face was bored

You wanted us to run away
To Yarmouth and hold hands in the rain
I wanted to, you had the best shoulders on any boy I’d ever seen

It’s never very far
It’s never very far to Peterborough
We may not run away
But I could be in Peterborough in an hour today
In an hour

???
I went on the trams in Yarmouth
And cried on the Carousel

I’m not talking to you, no you did it before
You say ‘you never get dressed up any more’
I’d rather be in Sheffield than Peterborough

It’s never very far
It’s never very far to Peterborough
We may not run away
But I could be in Peterborough in an hour today
In an hour

It’s been two years since I kissed you last
Our modern romance is in the past
I think of you on Platform 5 as we pull away

So ring me up and we’ll meet half way
??? To Peterborough today
With a drink for an hour at the station bar to Peterborough

It’s never very far
It’s never very far to Peterborough
We may not run away
But I could be in Peterborough in an hour today
In an hour

Yeah, yeah (x4)
Yeah, yeah, Peterborough (x2)
Yeah, yeah (x2)

Cover art for Peterborough lyrics by Long Blondes, The

This is a great early track. I read an interview with Kate where she said the song was about getting on a train from Sheffield to meet her boyfriend at Peterborough station which was a meeting point for the two of them as he lived in Nottingham.
