This song is pretty straightforward: He doesn't like her anymore... or doesn't like his friend anymore, whichever you prefer (I just hate when people assume it's about a relationship with a girlfriend or whatever). Not sure of the reason why, or can't think of anything from the song to get a reason why. But then Alec throws in a twist - "I'm seeing how quiet I can say your name I whisper to no one just to keep me sane An echo in the dark I wish was you

So I'm getting a thing that he misses that person that he's trying to get away from. He likes him/her, it's just that they've changed or something and it's pushing him away..

It seems straightforward in my mind.
