wow this song talks about consequences from the things he had done to someone he loved and the meaning could perhaps mean that that person left him before he could explain and apologize and now he feels awful because they're both left with only screwed up memories. That must suck
I think this is a song of losing someone who you didnt really get to know but wish you did. Like they passed away an now its to late to try an reach out to them, try to get become closer to that person. Mainly because there person in the song was distant an just never made the effort or tried to get to know the person better.
