An Ethereal Drain Lyrics
crossed out of our mindscapes
we're frozen in the time
stretched around your face a mask
a clever disguise ever
so enticing this corroding chemical synapse
spawn of a beast
an ethereal drain tatters on the brink
burst into a cloud of spores
explode into the atmosphere
weaving our lives with chaotic design siphons
what's left inside
suppress us
impress us with subtle delusions
and life-like proportions
bled into one another plagiarize
our dreams
a rift in eternity
all encompassing within it's entirety..
baptized in fire
leeching the underbelly
tired traditions
retired a discord within the choir
so sing the praise with your noiseless voices and pass the blame in the age of distorted reality
refined relief in chaos unleashed we find release
we're frozen in the time
stretched around your face a mask
a clever disguise ever
so enticing this corroding chemical synapse
spawn of a beast
an ethereal drain tatters on the brink
burst into a cloud of spores
explode into the atmosphere
weaving our lives with chaotic design siphons

This song is badass, I really like the solo.
Oh damn...I just decided to buy some of their stuff a couple days ago (thanks to kris haha)
But man, the lyrics are fecking good. I'll be back sometime to think about what it means
I'm a student of English philology and I came across many hard texts...But this one's reeeaaally freakin hard... still good though ;)
id say its about how a person lives on for eternity, but the body they grow up in is not eternal
but the persons soul does not just go to heaven or hell but is spread out
and it sortof has a regretful feel to it like nothing is complete
but is accepting the end as it comes
I think he wrote the lyrics tripping on acid... I mean I know that sounds unlikely but Ive read these lyrics over and over again and the words are just so amazingly arranged that John either had to be tripping balls or hes like the next Shakespeare.
I go with "Next to Shakespeare"

I think all of their songs are amazingly arranged and as close to perfection as any band I've ever heard.

I think this song is sweet. Different from most of the other songs they rock out to; more melancholy. Then again this album alone is that way. There's only maybe like 3 songs they thrash, and the rest are different. It makes me wonder what they were feelin at the time they wrote this album. I mean their new album isn't like this one was. And I'm not saying this in a bad way. I love this album by them. Its probably my favorite. It's just cool though.
This song is about how detrimental believing in god is. This is most clear in the line "So sing your praise with your noiseless voices." It's just saying that praying and hoping for things from god is useless as voices directed toward him are noiseless. "Refind relief in chaos unleashed," is say that letting go of the rigid views of religion for that of uncertainty and chaos is freeing. "suppress us impress us with subtle delusions and life-like proportions bled into one another" expresses John's views that religion, while it is desired, is delusional and how religious ideas spread because of how people try to make them seem "life-like".
