Artist and Repertoire Lyrics
Boys, please, dinner's on me tonight
I am the host and you're the parasite
(Don't come any nearer)
This is how we do it, do it, do it
(Don't come any nearer)
Armed with nothing but a dotted line
And big blue eyes
(Don't come any nearer)
Ominous, so ominous of surprise
(Don't come any nearer)
Surprise, I'm not who you thought I was
So load that barrel, boy
You better, boy
And put your horse down
She can't bear to run
You're as sleek as the words you speak
And now you're riding on the shoulders of the weak
I know you've got a habit
We're held as hostages
Blinded by appendages
I swore I'd make amends for this
We're held as hostages
Blinded by appendages
And I swore I'd make amends for this
Sir, please, we're laughing at your crooked smile
How you've trained those teeth to break my skin
Armed with nothing but a dotted line
And big blue eyes
(Don't come any nearer)
Ominous, so ominous of surprise
(Don't come any nearer)
You're as sleek as the words you speak
And now you're riding on the shoulders of the weak
I know you've got a habit
Take your life for paper knives
We're held as hostages
Blinded by appendages
And I swore I'd make amends for this
We'll work as hostages
I'll hide behind appendages
And I swore I'd make amends for this
Gentleman, the temptress has arrived
She's perfectly disguised in black and white
With dollar signs and dotted lines
And with my hands upon her hips
The notion of a kiss
The candle's lit
I can't commit
This feather's dipped in ink
A tattoo that never heals
She's asking me to sign right here
(Sign right here)

I love this song... It's about those damn A&R's always trying to make you sign your life away... And it's definitely "So ominous" and also sounds like "So load that barrel boy, you better boy..."
My interpretation is that it's about changing who you are and things about you to be successful or liked by others. The definition of appendages is 1.(often with negative or pejorative connotations) A thing that is added or attached to something larger or more important... so this could be like enhancement surgeries or stuff like that. The whole record label thing could apply too, you know if you change your music and "sell out". "We're held as hostages" states that we are prisoners of social and cultural paradigms, and that because the media portrays things a certain way that we must conform to that.
Oh, and the dotted line part is probably about the consent form you have to sign before surgery, or to get a record deal. And the big blue promising eyes of the person telling you to sign it.

i agree with jabestin. but this also reminds me of how, during the witch trials, ppl would claim that the devil came to them & wanted them to sign his book. the whole "dotted line" thing just seems like that.
This song to me, is about the smooth talking record labels with their "big blue eyes", "dollar signs", "dotted lines" and other fancy persuasive equipment.
In a way, it reminds me a lot of Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd....same kind of situation.
yeahh kinda straight foreward with the sleezy record lable trying to get them to sell away their souls. VIVA LA INDIE!
Hey if you listen closely it actually says 'blinded by appendages'
Hey guys. I have another idea, it may be like totally off but ill just throw it out there. I remember Ryan got asked in an interview how he felt about people getting a tattoo of Envy on the coast and girls coming up to him asking them to sign their breasts. He said something along the lines of 'i signed one girls breast and didnt feel comfortable doing it so i dont do that anymore'. with the 'armed with nothing but a dotted line'(plastic surgery) and 'blinded by appendages' (boobs) and other instances throughout the song can you see where i'm coming from?
appendages soo makes sense for breasts. she's holding them down and binding them, passing as a boy, which is why there are a much of "boy" and "man" references throughout the song. I'm not who you thought I was -- surprise!

Women used to "pass" all the time as men to get jobs back in the day (even outside of the U.S.)

Breasts are not appendages. Good try though. Also, this is one of the many times they hardcore remind me of The Audition, with the parallels to the song Lawyers.
