Ugly birds In A Beautiful Cage Lyrics
Laying in the dust feeling the cold.
Take me if you must but not for too long.
'Cause I feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage.
A bad actress in a wonderful play. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage.
And I will stay the same.
I have plastic eyes and a heart made of snow.
I love swimming up high and flying down low.
'Cause I feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage.
A bad actress in a wonderful play. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage.
And I will stay the same.
Just pull me out now.
Oh, will you just pull me out now.
'Cause I feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage.
A bad actress in a fucked up way. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage.
And I will stay the same.
Take me if you must but not for too long.
A bad actress in a wonderful play. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage.
And I will stay the same.
I love swimming up high and flying down low.
A bad actress in a wonderful play. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage.
And I will stay the same.
Oh, will you just pull me out now.
A bad actress in a fucked up way. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage.
And I will stay the same.

I stuffed up the lyrics guys, sorry. I realised just after I submitted them and I thought I could just edit them later but apparently not. It's just the second chorus is "'Cause I feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage. A bad actress in a wonderful play. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage. And I will stay the same." instead of "A bad actress in a wonderful play. An ugly bird in a beautiful cage. And I will stay the same."
Sorry :)
unlike alot of other kisschasy songs, what this song is actually referring to isnt really clear. but anyways... i get the feeling that this song is darren's experiences existing within a famous band. the chorus (i feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage) could therefore be referring to how while darren is now in this amazing worshipped band and is being nationally recognized, he is still the same average guy he was before he rose to fame. people are now idolizing him as this amazing super-human. and while i do think that darren is absolutely FANTASTIC, in reality hes just like everyone else. the line in the chorus: and i will stay the same, may be darren saying that although ppl have built up this terrific image of him, he's not going to try to be anything he's not and is going to stay true to himself. the verses are a little trickier... the first verse coud be darren highlighting the fact that he's only human and has weaknesses just like everyone else. possibly the second verse is darren revealing his true self... but i dunno. hope this helps! REALLY great song!!!
At one of their shows Darren said the title is about battery hens...he said that the hens are kept in such bad condition that they lose most of their feathers and they become really skinny and just look really bad, but on the other hand the cages are kept very well, and they are all shiny and such... I also think this song is about dealing with ‘popular’ people, stereotypically they are hot and pretty, but they are bitchy and have ugly personalities. The beautiful exterior of these people is their ‘cage’ and their personality, on the inside, the ‘ugly bird’. The beautiful cage is a distraction for the ugly bird, or personality on the inside --> 'Cause I feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage’
also maybe the ‘popular’ kids are hiding them true selves to conform in order to be a part of the in crowd..hmm don’t really know thou, just a thought
My interpretation of this song is that the writer is talking about people who hide behind their exterior looks, and feel safe because of them. I think with the 'and I will stay the same' line is about the personality staying the same because the person feels safe not expressing themselves from the inside because mabye they see it as ugly. The verse of 'Just pull me out now. Oh, will you just pull me out now.' May refer to the, wanting to express themselves but needing someone elses help to do so. I don't really know. Love the song though. Hell, love the whole album.
i thought that i meant like models there beautiful outside but not really on the inside. i also agree with the popular kids. pretty outside mean inside
I believe this song is darren's thought on steritypical beautiful people and how he thinks of an average guy like himself.
Darren said, at one of his shows, that this song was about becoming more and more reclusive. And yeah, the song title was from a video of poor messed-up chickens in a shiny new cage.
