A Paradox with Flies Lyrics
those solemn words whispered
in a haze could you
even see me standing there
all wrapped up
in insecurities
i won't stop
spilling out all over me
and in your eyes i see so much more
than that place you always go back to
you can pull yourself away from
that face that constantly haunts you
a graceful approach
that you carry on
and carry yourself in such a way
that could never be recreated
and in your eyes i see so much more
than that place you always go back to
you can pull yourself away from
that face that constantly haunts you
we're in too deep
go back to sleep
if this feels too synthetic then it's all been a dream
calling on our contrasts
controlled, contained, under pressure
we're in too deep
go back to sleep
if this feels too synthetic, then it's all been a dream
so fall forward into me
and let it all pour out
you owe this to yourself
and there's only one way out
in your eyes i see so much more
than that place you always go back to
you can pull yourself away from
that face that constantly haunts you
so rest your head
and close your eyes
just one more step
'till we're over the edge.
in a haze could you
even see me standing there
in insecurities
i won't stop
spilling out all over me
than that place you always go back to
you can pull yourself away from
that face that constantly haunts you
that you carry on
and carry yourself in such a way
that could never be recreated
than that place you always go back to
you can pull yourself away from
that face that constantly haunts you
go back to sleep
if this feels too synthetic then it's all been a dream
controlled, contained, under pressure
go back to sleep
if this feels too synthetic, then it's all been a dream
and let it all pour out
you owe this to yourself
and there's only one way out
than that place you always go back to
you can pull yourself away from
that face that constantly haunts you
and close your eyes
just one more step
'till we're over the edge.

i think this song is about a certain someone is struggling and making some bad moves.
the singer is telling that person that she is better than that.
does anybody know what the last line means, just one more step, till we're over the edge.
@dark-julie I always just took it as the song-writer committing suicide...

I think that the last part means their at the end of something or that their about to archive something they wanted. If I follow the point of view unseen gave us maybe he managed to change and that may be a new start for them or something like that
To me the singer is talking to anyone who clings to the past, no matter how good or bad it is. Telling them to release themselves from the insecurities and history they trap themselves in. To just relax and let go. And become what they really could be without all the baggage of the past.
I agree with Evilspleen. I think it is suicide as well. The paradox: Facing yourself in the mirror every day, wishing it would all just end because you can't bottle up anything else. I don't think there are two people in the lyrics. I think it's one person, looking and reflecting on themselves in the mirror, trying to justify what they are about to do, trying to find some dignity and honor in it. ( Sword reference ), trying to find one last shred of hope where they really feel there is none. You keep going back to that one moment but sadly it is just out of reach.
This is my favorite song in the world and always will be.
fuck yeah! this is my favourite darkest hour song too.. sooo sick
lol nobody left an opinion of what they thought the song meant lol pretty crazy so um i guess it's left to me...sorta... so yeah i think this song means that this girl the he loves had some struggles and stressed herself out too much and he's telling her that she is so much more than what she thinks of herself, she is capable of getting out of the problem that never seems to leave her. and he's saying that he's willing to fight this conflict together because he loves her and he'll never give up on her.
My ex introduced me to this song, and since then its been heart blistering, but in a good way. I think he means. He loves her and hates seeing her go back down the same path. what ever the struggle is, no matter the problem; he loves her no matter what. Maybe he doesnt know how to prove it, or doesnt know how to approach it. He loves her and would do anything for her. but i think " just one more step till were over the edge." means, if it keeps happening he will be done, and wont dwell in the past. There is only so much a person can take right?
This song is about someone I care about. She used to be an addict long before I met her but she still bares the scars from that period in her life. For her, "going back to that place" is when she still labels herself as an addict even though she has long since recovered. I see so much more than the recovering addict that she thinks she is. If she ever does come face to face with her past problems, she needs to know I will be by her side to show her that she is no longer that person....
