Coffee, God, and Cigarettes is a song mocking Alcoholics Anonymus. Considering that Erik Peterson is an atheist (Goodybye Under God) obviously he's poking fun at something because these aren't his true beliefs. AA tells people that they don't need alcohol they just need Jesus and to submit to a higher power.

You're obviously mistaken with what the program of alcoholics anonymous is about. It's not about accepting Jesus at all. It's about accepting a higher power. Which could be anything greater then yourself. It could be a group of people, the program, god, any sort of thing greater then yourself.

okay well im in NA and the vast majority of my friends are in NA/AA but this song, at least for me, is pretty true cynical it may be

It also seems to be making fun of those old temperance songs about the evils of alcohol such as Wild Rover (actually an anti-drinking song).
its not just making fun of alchol its making fun of all addictions. coffe god and cigerrets can all be potentailly destructive things when abused and hes laughting at everyone whos trying to be perfect and not just getting thier head out of their asses
