Cities on fire Lyrics

So fire it is,
to make our dark streets clean again
like a 'reset' button on our lives,
like hands of god
just dusting off the blackboard...
and with all we've worked for gone,
and all we cherished lost, we can start again.

So play your violin and breathe the sulphur in
take it on the chin as London sheds its skin.
Play your violin and try to hide your grin
as it burns away your sin, and London sheds its skin

"where are your churches and libraries? where are your books and memories?"

"We burned it all."

Brilliant song.

I think its about starting afresh after a relationship which has clearly hurt.

Love it.

I think clyroBiffy is correct. Sounds to me like a breakup song with a Great Fire of London analogy.

nah, not every song is about a breakup.. ..i think this song is meant very literally..that is jamie's style after all

its just a nihilistic view of our times, and london..

..i dont like london

It's about the band i think, they put this record out much more independant than the others and kind of felt it was starting again, rejuvinating the band. All the work they put in to their career, seeing lesser bands with much success etc. Shame they're gone now.
