This is undoubtedly an ingenious song. It's 2 people trying to get together the wrong way. One can't change, they're stuck in the past and the other one doesn't want to go on living in the present when the other is stuck in the past. So they're undecided. Stuck in neutral. Going nowhere with their relationship. Which will probably end unless someone moves.
