The Plot Lyrics

He gets up late
He gets upset
And I watch the whole thing happen from the foot of the bed

Well, I could stay in bed all day
Is that such an awful thing for me to say?
That's a problem and it's anybody's guess

He's not impressed
He's not impressed
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o

When she gets home
The door is open and it's hard to wait outside when she is gone
That's a problem and ii's anybody's guess

He's not impressed
He's not impressed
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
Oh no

Go out and you sleep
You're hiding in the sheets
But I work hard, so we can have nice things

You're not even dressed
The house is such a mess

He's not impressed
He's not impressed
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o
I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o

Sounds like a home abuse situation with various viewpoints. It goes from the kid "He gets up late He gets upset/And I watch the whole thing happen from the foot of the bed" onto the viewpoint of the abuser "But I work hard, so we can have nice things/You're not even dressed/The house is such a mess"

Sad. But a great song. Just heard it on Letterman for the 1st time.

I absolutely love White Rabbits, I'm seeing them at Siren tomorrow! I wish more lyrics were posted, though.

I'm obsessed with this song, and I love White Rabbits. I should spread the word...

i don't think it necessarily has to be an abuse situation. maybe whoever "he" is is that overworked father (but i worked hard/so we can have nice things) who is overcritical of their son, and the son ("I" in these lyrics) feels that he can "ne'er-do-well", so he's stopped trying (you're not even dressed/the house is such a mess).

I think this song may be written from the point of view of a dog, living with a couple who are miserable together. the line "it's hard to wait outside when she is gone" and the fact that he/she claims to be sleeping at the foot of the bed made me think of a dog. The 'whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o's even remind me of a dog howling.

Thoughts?

interesting; i can see what you're saying. it's possible. although, the whoa's really have no involvement, imo.

After "I'm so whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o", I think he says "amazed" after the third time.
