My Imaginary Friend Lyrics

I couldn't do it
So I asked for a helping hand
To get me through it
But I guess it wasn't in your plan
Or maybe you were

Just too busy to make time for me
I always put you first
Expected me to figure out things
But they all kept getting worse
When I think about the way you let me down
I wonder if I'm supposed to count on you

How could you ignore me?

My imaginary friend didn't come through in the end
So now I have to find a real one
Didn't answer when I called
Well I guess it's just because
He was never there at all

I can't believe it
Now that I'm looking back
Why didn't I see it
Well I guess I didn't even ask

While you were never
Ever in the places I would go
You never showed yourself
All those heart-felt conversations
Were with me and no one else
When I called your name
You never answered am I insane?
If you saw my suffering

How could you ignore me?

My imaginary friend didn't come through in the end
So now I have to find a real one
Didn't answer when I called
Well I guess it's just because
He was never there at all

It's not hard to let him go
I don't know know why I ever loved him so

Maybe there is something wrong with me
I don't see what they see
Used to fold my hands and close my eyes
And think that you were with me
Now there's something wrong
It doesn't seem to make much sense
I just feel so stupid now

How could I believe it?

My imaginary friend didn't come through in the end
So now I have to find a real one
Didn't answer when I called
Well I guess it's just because
He was never there at all

My imaginary friend wooh-yeah (Now I have to find a real one)
Didn't come through in the end wooh-no (Cause' he was never there at all)
He was never there at all

Do you guys think this is about a friend that is real, but wasn't there when needed, or an actual, invisible, edge of insanity, imaginary friend?

The song's about losing faith in God.

Yeah I agree it's about Jeaus being your imaginary friend.

Definitely about god. It's about waking up and realizing it's better to put your faith in real people than an imaginary being.

please explain to me how this song is about God or Jesus, since RBF does not have a single other song that is even close to being religious. this song, like many other RBF songs, is meant to be humorous and should NOT be taken seriously by anyone.

They didn't have any songs about lesbians before they wrote She Has a Girlfriend Now. They can write about different things. Also, they have a lot of serious lyrics, they are just sung to upbeat music.

I agree, this song must be about losing faith. The line that I can't make sense of though is:

All those heart-felt conversations Were with me and no one else

So...what's going on there? But yeah, it makes me pretty sad that Aaron (I assume) couldn't find faith.

"please explain to me how this song is about God or Jesus, since RBF does not have a single other song that is even close to being religious"

As for you, why would they make more than one song about something they don't believe in? If you had actually read the lyrics, you probably would have realised that this song is about LOOSING faith. Not having it.

Oh heh, mispelled losing down there. Whoops.

"All those heart-felt conversations Were with me and no one else"

I am not Christian, but I'm pretty sure this line is about prayer. It's common for people to say what they are praying out loud. "Having a conversation with God".
