Walcott Lyrics

Walcott, don't you know that it's insane?
Don't you want to get out of Cape Cod, out of Cape Cod tonight?
Walcott, Mystic seaport is that way
Don't you know that your life could be lost out of Cape Cod tonight?

Walcott, don't you know that it's insane?
Don't you want to get out of Cape Cod, out of Cape Cod tonight?
Walcott, the bottleneck is a shit show
Hyannisport is a ghetto, out of Cape Cod tonight

The lobster's claw is sharp as knives
Evil feasts on human lives
The Holy Roman Empire roots for you

Walcott, all the way to New Jersey
All the way to the Garden State, out of Cape Cod tonight

Walcott, fuck the women from Wellfleet
Fuck the bears out in Provincetown
Heed my words and take flight

Walcott, don't you know that it's insane?
Don't you want to get out of Cape Cod, out of Cape Cod tonight?
Walcott, don't you know that it's insane?
Don't you want to get out of Cape Cod, out of Cape Cod tonight?

This song is the first one by VW. The name Vampire Weekend comes from a movie that the singer, Ezra, was a part of. The plot was about a boy named Walcott who had to get out of Cape Cod to warn the mayor about a vampire attack before the whole town was taken over. The movie was called Vampire Weekend.

@brycesw Which film was this?

@ylei107319 Not an actual movie, just a project Ezra worked on in college.

Seen them twice and this was the encore both times!

No one has commented about "the bottleneck is a shit show" yet.

A bottleneck is a place where traffic backs up because there are limited routes across/through something (think of liquid escaping a bottle).

In Cape Cod, "the bottleneck" refers to the Sagamore Bridge on US Route 6, which is one of only two bridges that carries traffic into or out of the cape across the Cape Cod Canal. Anyone who has ever traversed either bridge on a summer weekend knows why it is a "shit show."

I was an ice cream man Welfleet on summer and the women there are kinda nuts.

I live on Cape Cod. I have for my whole life. It is absolutely horrible. For those of you who vacation here in the summer, yeah, it is fun. But once October rolls around, Cape Cod becomes a dark, gloomy, rainy place. It's cold. It's windy. There is nothing good about it in the off season. I am 15 years old. And the only thing I can dream of is getting out of Cape Cod. My best friend lives in Wellfleet and it is hilarious when we hear the part "fuck the women in Wellfleet". Oh and by the way, yes, Hyannis is ghetto. The only reason they said Hyannisport is because of the beat in the song. I am sure if the song was different the lyrics would be too. In general, Hyannis is the ghetto of Cape Cod. Unless you live on the water. I love this song.

the irony is that Hyannis is ghetto, but Hyannisport is not. Hyannisport is the only nice part of Hyannis

no, he's definitely saying wellfleet, as in the town on cape cod. also, i'm fairly certain he's saying "fuck the bears out in provincetown," as in one of the gay subcultures that p-town is famous for.

I think Holy Roman Empire is referring to the side that usually fights the Vampires. But usually, in all those movies, its just one priest that's sent to battle a legion of vampires. The HRE is always in the background.

wow I've been to Mystic Seaport, Hyannis and Provincetown on my last holiday to the US.. The Cape is my favourite place there so I like all the references!

Small towns aren't exactly the most exciting places to live. They're giving a big "fuck you" to all of them because as teenagers, I bet they felt a lot of frustration being stuck in a mundane city. They want to "get out tonight" and do something fun, assuming from the whole tone of the song.

I don't think there's any deeper meaning. To me, it's a literal song.
