Midnight Coward Lyrics
Sweetness, sweetness never suits me
When I get it up to take you home
Maybe it's love, love at first slightly drunk
Now I'm walking with the sun in my mouth
Worry, worry is a well
Gonna let it fall tonight from where we stand
What can't be decided
In the morning it will bring itself to you
I can see what's coming
But I'm not saying it
Sickness, weakness at the thought
Of how you're going to play
How long should I stay?
Promises, promises never cease to assist it
Now I'm back on my back
Please bite your words
Hurry, hurry to believe
I can always trust as much as you deceive
What can't be decided
In the morning it will bring itself to you
I can see what's coming
But I'm not saying it
What's your middle name?
How do you play the game?
I'll be the first to leave
When did I grow up?
I don't want to say too much
I'll be the first to leave
What can't be decided
In the morning it will bring itself to you
What can't be decided
Can fool you into thinking maybe you can choose
I can see what's coming
I can see what's coming
I can see what's coming
But I'm not saying it
When I get it up to take you home
Maybe it's love, love at first slightly drunk
Now I'm walking with the sun in my mouth
Worry, worry is a well
Gonna let it fall tonight from where we stand
In the morning it will bring itself to you
I can see what's coming
But I'm not saying it
Of how you're going to play
How long should I stay?

i think he says "weakness at the thought"...like he's getting a stomach ache thinking of the girl. i can relate :)
Ah, the one night stand. There is always the awkwardness when morning comes. Do you actually have to have an actual conversation with your partner? Who's going to leave first? Pretend to be asleep and let the other leave, or.....? You were drunk last night and now you've got a hangover. Do you regret what you did? Feeling any guilt, shame? Are there any repercussions for your behaviour?
I believe this is a song about not wanting to recognize a night will turn into a one-night stand, so both parties just go along mindlessly and optimistically, refusing to think it may not work.
Accordingly, I believe the lyrics are closer to:
Sweetness, sweetness never suits me When I get it up to take you home Maybe it's love, love at first slightly drunk And I'm walking with the sun in my mouth Worry, worry is a web Gonna let it fall tonight from where we stand
Sickness, weakness at the fall Of how you're going to play it How long should I stay? Promises, promises never cease to assist it And now I'm back on my back Please bite your words Hurry, hurry to believe I can always trust as much as you deceive
I love how this song transitions. Shows the progression of thoughts and actions. And, I thought it was "I can see what's coming, but I'm not saying it". It sounds right, and it fits better with the theme of being a coward.
My favorite part of this song is the line "Love, love at firstlightly drunk" Its hard to transliterate, the way first light melts into slightly drunk, but i love that part.
stars has done it again. this album is BEYOND amazing. i can't wait to see them NOV. 2!!
another lovely duet, with a similar theme to "your ex-lover is dead."
Will you be the one to sneak out?
This is obviously about a drunk, one night stand. At least from the female's perspective. However, I think the male wants more than just a one night stand ("I can always trust as much as you deceive"), and wants to know whether she plays people or not. Also towards the end the lovers attempt to justify their actions by quickly asking pointless questions after their one nights stand: "Whats your middle name?" etc. However, they realize their relationship will only be sex and feel guilty.
i am hearing "maybe it’s love, love at first slightly drunk"
does anyone second that??
