Taken Aback

There are a couple lines in the second verse that I really just couldn't get a hold of, but give me your corrections and I'll make sure to fix them up.

it's he talking about some ex girlfriend or something like this?

I guess it could be about an ex, but I think it has to do with old friends. I'm given this idea because he mentions his small town, and so I feel like he's drawing back on old memories and how things aren't the same anymore. For a moment, he also wonders if he should take any of the blame for that.

Also, he says, "It's not everything I am, my dear, only friend." The connection to a friend can be obviously drawn from this. Also, I think he might be talking about his career as a musical artist. Maybe that helped create distance between him and his friend and he wants the friend to know it will be over some day, that it's not everything, and he's still the same person.

i heard its about a father and son reunion. so maybe it relates to his dad

i could be wrong, but to me it seems like this song's about seeing an ex a few years after sort of a complicated break-up..the kind of thing where there was something there, but for one reason or another they just couldn't make it work. that's probably taking it into the more concrete sense, but it matches up pretty well to me.

I kinda get this feeling that its the ex that breaks up with him and he's taken aback. So he thinks and reminisces about the memories and experiences they shared and realizes it might not be that bad.

well I think that he's talking about an old friend that he meets after not seeing him for a long time, obviously they have been really close back then. Now Bryce realized that things just aren't the same anymore and that the friend isn't really intrested in him anymore...(I don't need such sympathy)

I love this song!! I'm so excited to see them in concert tonight!! :D :D This song is so great. I think it's about a relationship that has failed and the other person doesn't care to know how you are, and you wish they did. I totally get that, it's happening to me right now.
