A Song Is Not A Business Plan Lyrics

Hey, stop, do you hear an echo?
I do, but does anyone know?
Same old thing we heard an hour ago
Different band, the same radio

We broke down on the side of the road
East coast, we had to cancel the shows
I'm trying as hard as I can
But I'd rather write a song than a business plan

Because this is me saying words I actually mean
I won't compromise this thing just to make it

I want to, that's a given
But, I can't imagine the same way as you, oh, you
No, I'll never do the things they do just to make it

Ohh ohh
Ohh, woah
Ohh ohh
Ohh

Singing soul, you say you got it in you
Something to say, well, I don't hear it in any one of your tunes
The words you heard you reused
You got a hook but it's no book
Got no soul, just a look

And this is me saying words I actually mean
I won't compromise this thing just to make it

I want to, that's a given
But, I can't imagine the same way as you
Oh, you
No, I'll never do the things they do just to make it

Ohh, oh

[Spoken]
Honest and real
What happened to having something to say?
Where is the purpose?
What happened?
You made this all become about nothing
This song is not a business plan
We're losing hope in the world
Create something you love
Follow the formulas
What does it take?
Say what you mean, and not because someone else said it, but because it's what you feel

Do you even know what you're even saying?
Or are you just saying it cause someone else said it?
Do you even know what you're even saying?
Or are you just saying it cause someone else said it?
Do you even know what you're even saying?
Or are you just saying it cause someone else said it?
Do you even know what you're even saying?
Or are you just saying it?

I want to, that's a given
But, I can't imagine the same way as you
Oh, you
No, I'll never do the things they do just to make it

I want to, that's a given
But, I can't imagine the same way as you
Oh, you
No, I'll never do the things they do just to make it

Ohh, oh
Ohh, woah
Ohh, oh
Ohh, woah
Ohh oh
Ohh, woah
Ohh, ohh

I love him for saying this. It just seems like music is trying to turn itself into an industry, remove any originality, and sell things that it knows will SELL, without taking risks or being unique. :]

AWESOME> i love them for saying this, it's exactly how i feel. it seems almost all of the so-called artists being supported these days by many people are only PRODUCTS. they are far from the word artists or even musicians. i'm not targetting all of them, some are good, but cough-cough fergiebritneyvariousrappers do not deserve the name 'artist'. ever.

"This is me, saying words I actually mean I won't compromise this thing just to make it"

"I'll never do the things they do just to make it"

He's telling everyone, especially his fans, that he isn't selling out like many other artists. Money is not his reason for singing, and he won't let it control what he does with his music.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. it's pretty self explanitory, so yeah. it's about all those sell outs and so-called artists letting the industry use them as puppets.

i love this song. and i love him for saying this.

"Hey, stop, do you hear an echo? I do, but does anyone know? Same old thing we heard an hour ago Different band, the same radio"

i htink he's basically saying all the music nowadays sounds the same to him. no diversity or originality. it's like an echo, but its a different band. they all do the same thing, just to be famous.

"Because this is me saying words I actually mean I won't compromise this thing just to make it"

he's saying what he wants to say, and he's not gonna leave that just to make it.

"I want to, that's a given But, I can't imagine the same way as you"

is that saying that he wants to be bigger, but he can't leave what he's doing now or something??

well, those are my thoughts. im gonna shut up now.

Ok, so it's pretty obvious what most of the song is about, and it's great that he said it. But what is this bit all about:

"We broke down on the side of the road East coast, we had to cancel the shows I'm trying as hard as I can But I'd rather write a song than a business plan"

...?? Clearly it has to tie in with the theme somehow, but how?

This part of the song: "We broke down on the side of the road East coast, we had to cancel the shows I'm trying as hard as I can But I'd rather write a song than a business plan" references to when Bryce wrote this song. His van had broken down again and he had to cancel all the dates for the Canadian tour. He was pretty bummed and frustrated and it's when he wrote this song.

"Singing soul, you say you got it in you Something to say, well, I don't hear it in any one of your tunes"

"And this is me saying words I actually mean I won't compromise this thing just to make it"

these are actually references to him being a christian artist. many christian artists sell out within the first year or two and hes saying that hes going to continue being a christian artist and wouldnt give it up just for the industry.
