Crazy in the Night (Barking at Airplanes) Lyrics

Who is it?)

Sometimes I really think
I'm going crazy in the night
When I hide down in the covers
And I won't turn on the light
I think nothing's gonna get me
But then again it might
What can I do to keep from going
Crazy in the night

I need a drink of water
But I swallow hard instead
Cause it's hard to move a muscle
When you're frozen in your bed
If I could make it to the phone
Before I die of fright
What can I do to keep from going
Crazy in the night

"Sometimes she really thinks
She's going crazy in the night
When she hides down in the covers
And she won't turn on the light
She says nothing's gonna get to her
But then again it might
What can she do to keep from going
Crazy in the night"

There's a monster on my ceiling
There's a monster on the wall
There are thousands in the closet
Now they're coming down the hall
I'm so hidden they can't find me
But then again they might
What can I do to keep from going
Crazy in the night

"Sometimes she really thinks
She's going crazy in the night
When she hides down in the covers
And she won't turn on the light
She says nothing's gonna get to her
But then again it might
What can she do to keep from going
Crazy in the night"

And if I disappeared
Do you think they'd ever look
Would I be headlines in the paper
Or the cover of the book
Got to pull myself together
I don't want to die of fright
What can I do to keep from going
Crazy in the night

"Sometimes she really thinks
She's going crazy in the night
When she hides down in the covers
And she won't turn on the light
She says nothing's gonna get to her
But then again it might
What can she do to keep from going
Crazy in the night"

I take it to be about irrational fears. I think it's also somewhat tongue-in-cheek. She knows her fears are irrational, but cries about them anyway. Like the "If I disappeared..." line, she knows she won't, but thinks about it anyway.

Clever to have a song that isn't about the usual song subjects: love lust, dancing, etc., but night fears... unique.

My Interpretation

And the name of the album is "Barking at Airplanes," a metaphor for irrational fear.

to me this song seems to be about childhood sexual abuse. the "monsters" are the perpetrators who may or may not show up on any given night.

I think this song is about fighting the inner demons following physical, emotional, and/or psychological traumas that surface late at night, when everything has quite down and you're all alone in the dark of night with the images flashing everywhere. You're afraid to say anything, because you don't want anyone to think you're crazy or tell you to get over it already!! Anyhow, I always felt like this song was my Anthem...... It really got me......

no comments! everyone knows her for bette davis eyes, but this one is very good too, but not anywhere as good as bette davis eyes.

i appreciate your view point, but i respectfully disagree. this song is much deeper than "betty davis eyes"
