The Moon Lyrics

Cut the bonds with the moon
And let the dogs gather
Burn the gauze in the spoon
And suck the poison up
And bleed

Shut the door to the moon
And let the birds gather
Play no more with the fool
And let the souls wander
And bleed
From the soul

A slow hurt, and it breaks us
And so down, down, down, down and so plain
So down
When you play some more it seems so
And my friends are past this game, of breakdowns
And our friends that are lost at sea, throw down
And I'll break the wasted space
Slow down, slow down
If you don't slow down, slow down
If you don't slow down, slow

Cut the bonds with the moon
And watch the dogs gather

i just saw the swell season in concert and thery wer the most effing amazing thing you can imagine.tis song is so beautiful.glen said this song is about how when you go away from nature or from the natural path of things, you are basically scewed and nothing will end up good in the end.

This song always makes me feel like sometimes you just have to give in and actually feel pain, even when it hurts.

"Cut the bonds with the moon..." in my opinion could mean a few things - gravity and the moon - let go and just feel without any tether to reality. Or it could also mean to let go of any romantic notions about what you're going through, too. The moon makes everyone romanticize things when you're outside.

Just my take.

One of my favorites for sure...

I cannot help but think he is referencing drug use/abuse. Perhaps "cutting the bond with the moon" means taking a break from reality. I mean..

"Burn the gauze in the spoon And suck the poison up And bleed"

That seems like a pretty clear reference to cooking....

i usually hate it when people are quick to assume that songs are about drugs. but i agree - that has to be a reference to heroin..

to quote another user on this site: "glen described this song as being about cutting ourselves off from our nature, that there's a domino effect from that where everything seems to go wrong for awhile -- it's about losing yourself for a couple of years in some other idea and coming out the other side and reflecting back. How it was a shit time but you've learned something from it"

I...

I also hate it when folks assume everything is about drugs… Why is that? I have no idea, but in this case it just seems to fit. I mean just that one lyric is pretty cut and dry.
