Fireworks Lyrics

Now it's day, I've been trying to get that taste off my tongue
I was dreaming of just you, now our cereal, it is warm
Attractive day in a rubble of the night from before
Now I can't walk in a vacuum, I feel ugly, feel my pores
It's the trees of this day that I do battle with for the light
Then I start to feel tragic, people greet me, I'm polite
"What's the day?" "What's you doing?"
"How's your mood?" "How's that song?"
Man it passes right by me, it's behind me, now it's gone
And I can't lift you up, my mind is tired
It's family beaches I desire
The sacred night, we watched the fireworks, the frightened babies poo
They've got two flashing eyes, they're colored while
they make me feel that I'm only all I see sometimes.

I've been eating with a good friend who said
"A Genii made me under the earth's skin" and
in spite of her she is my birth kin,
she spits me out in her swirly blood rivers
All the people have lurking in dominion of the hard Charybdis
if the elephants be reaching for our purses,
then meet me after the world with the shivers.

"What's the day?" "What's you doing?"
"How's your food?" "How's that song?"
Man it passes right by me, it's behind me, now it's gone
And I can't lift you up cause my mind is tired,
It's family beaches that I desire,
That sacred night where we watched the fireworks
That frightened the babies and you know they've got two flashing eyes
And if they're color blind, they make me feel, that you're only what I see sometimes.

And I can't lift you up cause my mind is tired, it's family beaches that I desire
That sacred night where we watched the fireworks
They frightened the babies and you know they've got two flashing eyes
and they're color blind, they make me feel, that I'm only all I see sometimes.

Lyric Correction

Nice work. One thing though is, I think instead of "family beaches", it's "family features"

Much better but still not quite right I think. He definitely says "meet me after the whirlwind"

This part is brilliantly written: "A sacred night, where we'll watch the fireworks The frightened babies poo They've got two flashing eyes and they're colored why They make me feel that I'm only all I see sometimes." What he's noting is how the babies are so easily moved by simple things, and their eyes "are colored why" because of their curiosity with the world, this causes him to feel as if he's all that he sees sometimes because he has lost that special curiosity that they have. There's a big theme on Strawberry Jam of moving from one place in time to the next, maybe more specifically moving from childhood to adulthood, another example in this song of this theme would be "Man it passes right by me, it's behind me, now it's gone."

I made an account to thank you and that other guy that explained for reverend green. Faulty internet lyrics make it hard to understand so thank you! :)

I think the whole part with the babies and the fieworks is showing what you take for granted. like the ones that can see the color of the fireworks take the idea of seeing the colors for granted so they only see themselves and the ones who are colorblind don't take things for granted so they see the ones they love. i could be completely wrong but that's what i got from hearing the song.

yea..i thought the same.

A sacred night, we'll watch the fireworks The frightened babies poo They've got two flashing eyes and they're colored why They make me feel that I'm only all I see sometimes

-This is probably the most key part to understanding the song. The babys remind the narrator that why are only what we percive: that all we are is what we see, hear, smell, taste, feel, and thats all we are able to think about. This part of the song is the only time the word firework is used, which is important because fireworks is in fact the title of the song. This song is about fireworks; things that we take for granted. The song also brings up something similar - feeling mortal, as in just being a heap of chemicals in the line: 'A genie made me out of the earth's skin'

I m not sure what Hot Turk Dish is about exactly.

'If the elephants be reaching for our purses' is an intresting line because its probably refering to republican politians taking are money and ruining the world and the average americans life

I read that the album came out on 9-11, which made me question if the love of the narrator is actually there, and actually alive. Hes reminis of her, and talks about dreaming about her but her presence seems unlikely. Maybe the line: 'Then meet me after the world with the shivers' is about meeting her in an after life. The fact that it was relised on 9-11 makes the word rubble intresting choise of words in the first stanza.

The first stanza the narrator is worren out and jadded.

It's the trees of this day that I do battle with for the light light could be justice or understanding.

Family beaches that i disire a plesent line- the narrator says that what he wants is to be at a beach a relaxing place with his family a sorta childhood like memory to have. Someplace away from where he is now.

The song diffenatly has more than a few meanings and was meant to be written that way, which is the way great poety/lyrics are written. This is a really beautiful song.

I heart your interpretations!

But i must beg to disagree on a few points. 1) This album came out on 2007. But your interpretation still applies - bush was blowing up our deficit still six years after '01. 2) While the genii made us out of earth 'chemicals' you forget that the genii is himself magic. We are yes, a bundle of molecules and Newtonian/Einsteinian physics, but its all held together with something, greater, more ineffable, more mind blowing than just carbon and water. Science + Magic = You. 3) Unless you live in disneyland, fire-works are not normal every day occurrences that...

The first animal collective song i ever heard and still my favorite. It's been my favorite song of the moment, since...the day i first heard it. If i play this song on my ipod nothing about life bothers me for a six minute period. It's a trance inducing stroke of genius that always gives me an indescribable feeling. I should add I don't have any idea what the song is about. I rarely ever try to figure it out despite knowing every sound that is about to be introduce before it comes out of the speakers. I don't know if i want to know what it's about. It's simple and extreme power of mood puts it beyond a single sentence description, maybe even beyond a five page essay.
