You Crowd My Memories Lyrics

You are a chair that I have kept
And nights in your arms I have wept
For you to come back
Are far to many

You are a seashell that I keep
I listen when the water’s deep
And I am lonely

You crowd my memories
Take over space you’ve never seen
You told me things you could not mean
Left me with no room to breathe

You are a figment, I have created you
A source of pleasure and of pain
Relic of what could have been

An empty guy I will not sell
A story I will not tell
Not any more

You crowd my memories
Take over space you’ve never seen
You told me things you could not mean
Left me with no room to breathe

You crowd my memories
You crowd my memories

My god but you were cold and hard
I kept thinking there was more
I was reaching so far to save you

And when you said I was a star
You meant that I was beautiful and far away
I should have stayed away

You crowd my memories
Take over space you’ve never seen
You told me things you could not mean
Left me with no room to breathe

You crowd my memories
You crowd my memories

God help me I am weak and vain
And though I never speak your name
I hope you think of me
I hope to see your face again

Cover art for You Crowd My Memories lyrics by Catherine Feeny

she thinks back on their memories and they are priceless. all she needs to do in order to make herself feel whole when she's lonely is remember that she once had him. he was a sweet talker, and she knew she was heading for destruction, but what was between them was so intense that he consumed every second of her thoughts. she couldn't help it. she made up memories of him, and still does even though he's long gone. it makes her smile to think about him, but at the same time it hurts because something went wrong. she won't give her feelings for him up, but she keeps it to herself. he's her guilty pleasure, her secret, and the one that got away. he was emotionally detached, but his sweet talking lead her to believe that they had more than they did. she tried so hard to break him out of his cold nature, and he did care, but he didn't want all of her. he preferred his perception of her; she was the beautiful thing he could play with then put back on the shelf. she always knew better, but couldn't stay away. she ends up feeling stupid and easy. she pretends to hate him to her friends, for fear of appearing weak. and for a while, she had herself convinced she hated him, too, but she couldn't fool herself. she hopes the best for him and misses him very much. he likely initiated the whole ordeal. she was hesitant at first. then she broke down after a while, and fell hard. he got freaked out and backed off, leaving her cold and broken.

that's what i got out of it.
