So, I think this song is about a guy who loves a girl (obviously) and that even though she's happy and wonderful during the day, at night, her true feeling surface. But this boy is the only boy who can see that, and he cares for and loves her deeply. She might've just gotten out of a long relationship and the boy wants to be there for her and wants HER to love HIM. "Let me raise you up. Let me be your love." And he's asking her, "May I hold you as you fall to sleep? When the world is closing in and you can't breathe?" He wants to be there for her, he cares for her so much and doesn't want her hurt. "All I want is to keep you safe from the cold. To give you all that your heart needs the most." He wants to protect her and give her the right kind of love. And at the end, she might love him too, "For your love is changing me."

This whole song is so self-explanatory and I love it!
She's his whole world and is perfect for her in every way. This is probably one of the most honest love songs I've ever heard and the lyrics have so much passion. It's just magical.

I agree with the above. However for me I can see this also as a parent's promise to his/her child. When the song mentions light starting to fade it means every time the child will go through rough times, and the father letting his child know he will always be there to love him unconditionally and protect him. I envision a father singing this to his baby perfectly!
