Something Left to Give Lyrics
I've got stars in my great big sky
I shall gaze upon without leaving small ones behind
Because they're harder to find
Some were satellites, others planes
Some were twinkling while others were fading away
But they're all one of a kind
Oh it's not that interesting
But I'd like to keep it a secret
So I'll have something left to give
It's not that difficult when you've got a luck of this kind
We've got to take advantage
We've got such limited time
Oh I wonder, oh I wonder
How long'd it to take me to die
Oh it's not that interesting
But I'd like to keep it a secret
So I'll have something left to give
And I'll hear my children and grandchildren sing
Oh It's not that interesting
But I'd like to keep it a secret
So I'll have something left to give
In my remaining years
When I am old and plain lazy
I'll have a little something left to give
To all those who loved me so much
I'd like to return the favor
And have something left to give
And I'll hear my children and grandchildren sing
It's not that difficult when you've got a luck of this kind
To all those who loved me so much, I'd like to return the favor
I wonder oh I wonder, how long to take me to die
It's not that interesting but I'd like to keep it a secret
And have something left to give
I shall gaze upon without leaving small ones behind
Because they're harder to find
Some were satellites, others planes
Some were twinkling while others were fading away
But they're all one of a kind
But I'd like to keep it a secret
So I'll have something left to give
We've got to take advantage
We've got such limited time
Oh I wonder, oh I wonder
How long'd it to take me to die
Oh it's not that interesting
But I'd like to keep it a secret
So I'll have something left to give
And I'll hear my children and grandchildren sing
But I'd like to keep it a secret

it sounds nothing like bright eyes first of all. haha
and what it means to me is this. when we run out of advice to give or something to offer the world that's when we die. so he wants to hold onto the advice and in his case his music for as long as he can. he wants to always have something to offer the world. and he wants to be able to hear his children and grandkids maybe even sing his songs. we need to feel like we have a purpose here. when we lose that purpose. we lose our lives.
that's how i see it anyways.
Love it, my favorite song off Direction.
by far the best song on their new cd "Direction", the sound of this song is soo different from all of their other stuff, cant wait to get the cd!
Best song on the CD.
Wearysaint, very good interpretation, I agree with it.
I was kind of thinking the same as Weartsaint08. But I think he's talking about music. When he says "And I'll hear my children and grandchildren sing" I think he's talking about the future generations of singers/songwriters and how he would like to contribute to music history.
Just what I thought...
Why does he talk about stars in the beginning? I guess those could be referring to each of his songs. But the music theory is a really good one.
I also have a similar take on the song.
I've got stars in my great big sky I shall gaze upon without leaving small ones behind Because they're harder to find
This could be referring to all the bands out there with him right now. There are many, some are big and some are small, but he’ll stick behind the small ones because they’re harder to find.
Some were satellites, others planes Some were twinkling while other were fadin' away But they're all one-of-a-kind
Some were floating, while some soared, and some were just getting, or in the middle of their limelight, while others were fading out. But they’re all great in their own way.
It's not that interesting But I'd like to keep it a secret So I'll have something left to give
Maybe this is referring to all of the songs he’s written, yet haven’t been released. He’d like to have something left to share with everyone in the future.
It's not that difficult When you've got a luck of this kind We've gotta take advantage We've got such limited time
Could be referring to how lucky he feels to be on a label with people he loves and able to produce the music he wants to produce. But they’ve got to hurry and make it before it’s too late.
Oh, I wonder Oh, I wonder how long it'll take me to die It's not that interesting But I'd like to keep it a secret So I'll have something left to give
Could be referring to how he wonders how long it’ll be before no one listens to them anymore.
And I'll hear my children and grandchildren sing
Could refer to future generations of music.
Oh, I wonder Oh, I wonder how long it'll take me to die It's not that interesting But I'd like to keep it a secret
what does tht part mean? tht he plans to kill himself... or tht he somehow knows when he'll die?
In reply to Matthew, in the context of the song, I think he's referring to the death of his presence (possibly like a star) not an actual death.

He could be saying that he'd like to take his career at his own pace and not 'Die Out' like so many bands who have uber-media coverage do nowadays.

I think the lyrics should be taken literally. Maybe Kenny was just looking at the sky one day and thought he should write a song about it.
