I feel he is asking those who have shot him if he can find a place to die in peace rather then die in the chaos of the fight. He pays the price for his country or military.

Hm, it strike me as kind of a "Hallowed be thy name" themed song, with a man awating the carrying out of his death sentence. Only a bit sader and less agressive.
i agree with you, its somebody who is going to die soon. the difference is, that in maidens song the guy is inniocent and he is loosing his mind beacouse he doesnt want to die

Clearly this person thinks nobody cares about him, he hates his life and he choses to die.
