So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
thought she was the most important person in the world
dressed him up in chloroform he hasn't said a word
but he came round
came, came round, hit the wall
she's got 15 ways to run around and make him cry
and he's got 15 ways to wander round and wonder why
i've got a feeling there are better people
dragged him down the stairs into the back seat of her car
should have seen it coming, he was hazy, it was dark
but he broke out
broke, broke out jumped the wall
and she's got 15 ways to run around and make him cry
and he's got 15 ways to wander round and wonder why
i've got a feeling there are better people
and she's got 15 ways to run around and track him down
and he's got 15 ways to run around and try to hide
i've got a feeling there are better people
she killed them all
cut from the mould
well they're the ones that recognize
they're the ones that spit it in your eye
but she drove right
drove, drove right at the wall
and she's got 15 ways to run around and make him cry
and he's got 15 ways to wander round and wonder why
i've got a feeling there are better people,
people
dressed him up in chloroform he hasn't said a word
but he came round
came, came round, hit the wall
she's got 15 ways to run around and make him cry
and he's got 15 ways to wander round and wonder why
i've got a feeling there are better people
dragged him down the stairs into the back seat of her car
should have seen it coming, he was hazy, it was dark
but he broke out
broke, broke out jumped the wall
and she's got 15 ways to run around and make him cry
and he's got 15 ways to wander round and wonder why
i've got a feeling there are better people
and she's got 15 ways to run around and track him down
and he's got 15 ways to run around and try to hide
i've got a feeling there are better people

cut from the mould
well they're the ones that recognize
they're the ones that spit it in your eye
but she drove right
drove, drove right at the wall
and she's got 15 ways to run around and make him cry
and he's got 15 ways to wander round and wonder why
i've got a feeling there are better people,
people

it's all a big metaphor. The guy is in love with a girl "thought she was the most important person in the world". But she is is just playing with him that's why she makes him cry and he wonders why because he thinks she actually likes him. "Chloroform" is just a metaphor of how she makes him feel. She doesn't literally kill them she just makes someone fall for her then dumps them and moves on to the next guy
Great song! FiFa 07! No clue about the meaning though.
Maybe it's about a girl that really loves a guy but keeps letting him down. And she tries to get back with him and eventually he gives in 'she's got 15 ways to run around and track him down, he's got 15 ways to run around and try to hide', he always gives in but she always lets him down even though she really loves him. Maybe the number 15 represents 15 other men? Secretly a whoree???!
Blah that just got worse as I went along.
I'm having a terribly difficult time trying to relate the verses and the chorus. I mean, the verses are pretty straightforward. She chloroforms and kidnaps him, he wakes up and flips out, and she drives the car into a wall. As for the chorus, everything she does upsets him and makes him confused. The "I've got a feeling there are better people" line makes me think that the singer isn't involved in this but rather watching it from afar. The other line I don't get is, "She killed them all, cut from the mould." Annoyingly ambiguous meaning aside, I love this song. c:
I think the thing is pretty simple.
She's somewhat like the black widow. Makes the guy fall in love with her, then she kidnaps him, and kills him. The main focus of the lyrics, is the point of view of a third person, talking about the situation. And this person isn't saying that one side or the other is right, it's just saying the facts that goes through the mind of the Black Widow, and through the mind of the poor guy.
I think that 15 is the number of guys she killed, like a serial killer.
"Got a feeling there are better people" is like you reading the news and then you came up with something, like a tragical murdering case, and you think "at least there are good people in the world..."
Pretty much, i think this is it.
