We're Getting a Divorce, You Keep the Diner Lyrics

"Ready or not here they come,
It's Zombie time."

We were the magnificent dreamers,
In secret lamplight hideouts.
We swore the world couldn't break us,
Even when the world took us down.
So here I am struggling,
Out in the mighty jungle,
Moving eighteen miles a minute,
But not slowing down for nothing.
I look to my left,
And I look to my right.
I'm calling out for my brothers,
But it's so dark in this night.
Am I alone?

Did they fall down by the wayside?
Was I moving too blind to see them?
Were they calling out to me?
Or did despair set in?

Were the things that we wanted when we were still sixteen,
Only passing and fleeting or just too far out of reach?
Were you hard up or broken man?
I woulda helped you out.
Were you numb and distracted when I was calling out?
I was calling out.

On a Sunday morning the whole crowd assembled.
I've done some things that I'm not too proud of.
I've never left you,
A deaf ear for longing.
Some hearts are gallows,
I'm not here for hangin' around.

It's alright, man,
I'm only bleeding, man.
Stay hungry, stay free,
And do the best you can.

It's alright, man,
I'm only bleeding, man.
Stay hungry, stay free,
And do the best you can.

It's alright, man,
I'm only bleeding, man.
Stay hungry, stay free,
And do the best you can.

It's alright, man,
I'm only bleeding, man.
Stay hungry, stay free,
And do the best you can.

It's alright, man,
I'm only bleeding, man.
Stay hungry, stay free,
And do the best you can.

It's alright, man,
I'm only bleeding, man.
Stay hungry, stay free,
And do the best that you can.

First comment, Woo! So many people have hopes and dreams when they are young, but putting them into action is another story. This song is about one person going on and fighting even though his 'brothers' have left him behind. He wants them all to keep fighting to get wht they want no matter what happens and not get crushed by the obstacles in their way.

I think that it's about facing almost impossible odds : "fight for what you believe and never stop for anyone or anything that gets in your way" and they use the metaphor or a zombie attack to illustrate this

<3 "some hearts are gallows"

The zombie attack setting is a a pretty straight forward metaphor for absolute determination and the courage needed to 'fight' to achieve a goal, despite obstacles that seems insurmountable. Secondly, it also references how sometimes the people surrounding you 'give up the fight' and how that shouldn't bring you down.

It is a well written song accompanied by raw music and vocals, IMO. <3

Brian actually explained this one during a show. The diner would be the hangout spot amongst his group of friends. When he would date a girl, they would go there to be with friends. But when they broke up,they had to decide who could keep going to the diner,as they sure couldnt both comfortably go there.
