I think it's that he's falling for her, but she won't return the favor. He just doesn't know anymore and she's not making it any easier. So he turns to some form of medication that helps to get through the rought times.

The start of this song, the piano or guitar or whatever is it, reminds me of the Panadol Rapid ads, which is headache medication and that's what I think about every time I hear this song Not that is has anything to do with the meaning, I just thought it was a coincidence.
This song is pretty complex. It's about a guy loving a girl, and although he admits HE is addicted to HER. (she is his drug).... he wants to know if she is addicted to HIM or if she is REALLY just addicted to a substance.
