Religious Man Lyrics
I am I am, I am I am,
I think I am, I think I am,
I'm glad I am
I'm proud I am,
a real religious man.
As I realized, The mightiest friend,
Can seperate, A chance from fate.
Cause you have al,l I need to take,
That's why I think I am I am I am,
Whoa!
Cause I have prayed, I just behave
Cause saints and sinners,
Are quite the same.
Cause it's my temple,
The whole wide world ,
That's why I think I am I am
I am I am, I am I am,
I think I am, I think I am,
I'm glad I am
I'm proud I am,
a real religious man.
I am I am, I am I am,
I pray I am, I feel I am,
Oh Lord I am,
God knows I am,
A real religious man.
I am I am, I am I am,
I pray I am, I feel I am,
Oh Lord I am,
God knows I am,
A real religious man.

The music is good. Dig the accent too.
From a great, underated, (cult classic) if you will film. Not much to say about the meaning. The singer/songwriter is proud to be a religious man.
Nonetheless...it's catchy, very melodic, and a good jam. Religious or not, good tune.
This is an ironic song, where Mr. Loco speaks of being a "real" religious man. He says "Cause I don't pray, I just behave" (the lyrics above are incorrect), as well as "cause saints and sinners are quite the same". He's referring to how certain religious people still participate in devious behavior, yet him, as a "sinner", makes sure to behave, blurring the line between saints and sinners. In the longer, original version of the song, the first piece of the song refers to a woman, who he is praising in a religious manner. He also states how the whole world is his temple, which is why he believes he is a "real" religious man. He clearly believes that he doesn't need to pray or be a part of the church, because what he practices and how he lives is the essence of religion, supported by him saying that "God knows I am, a real religious man". The song is ironic, since it was used in Nacho Libre, but although the movie is very much religion-themed, it has an underlying message that says the church can sometimes be full of shit. That is why this song, although atheistic in nature, goes with the movie so perfectly. It was VERY well thought out.
@that70machine you are absolutely right. I have loved the song and movie since the film opened in theatres for that very reason. \r\nVery well thought out is true. In the movie he is such a morally decent person, non-judgmental, trying to be a better person, etc. etc. but clearly not religious in a typically Catholic or Christian sense. My kind of human.

@that70machine No it's not atheist at all the movie is based on a actual Catholic Priest that became a wrestler it says saints and sinners are quite the same because in catholic theology all humans are bad but can gain redemption thew Jesus so every saint was once a sinner and every sinner can become a saint
