Living In the End Lyrics

An easy operator on the side of the road
A million dollar man in a lower-class home
Chopping trees for needs of a spiritual kind
Forever getting low while he tried to be high
He was an early morning eagle, lion flew from a fire
Barely getting over forget getting by
But it's all the same for Billy Kincade
If he had to do it over he would do it the same

He was living in the end
He was living in the end

Polly and her pity wasn't pretty at all
She concentrated fully on the shine of the star
Pinching pennies, just to pinch them
She never let go
They always dominated everything that she owned
She couldn't stop to say she didn't have the time
How could she afford to pay attention to life?
Oh it's all the same for Polly the Vain
If she had to do it over she would do it the same

She was living in the end
She was living in the end

Are you all right darling, all right now?
You'll never be, never be the same.
Are you all right darling, all right now?
Don't you ever wanna, ever wanna see some change?

He didn't see it coming, that's the tale of his life
The easy operator laid to rest in the night
He had to take the hit, it's always the same
And that's the way she see it, killing Billy Kincaid
That's the way she see it, killing Billy Kincaid

Are you all right darling, all right now?
Don't you ever wanna, ever wanna see some change?

Are you all right darling, all right now?
Don't you ever wanna, ever wanna see some change?

Are you all right darling, all right now?
Don't you ever wanna, ever wanna see some change?

I think this song is categorizing people. People who "live in the end", whatever that means, are people who are able to live their life without looking back and dwindling on the past. This could be in a good thing or bad. I think OAR is trying to say that living in the end isn't a good thing. Marc uses the lyric "don't you ever wanna see some change" to illuminate the fact the people who act before thinking and don't realize it are going to keep making the same mistakes and not ever realize causing them to be unable to change themselves for the better. He takes this further in the lyric "he didn't see it coming, that's the tale of his life" by trying to say that people who don't regard their past and are unable to see the flaws in it will also be unable to see whats in store for them in the future. This song holds great meaning and I simply love the message of it.
