Colourful Life Lyrics

I'd love to go to a brand new place but recognize the sky
A brand new motion yet same old people and thats the reason why
The colours of honey are in you're eyes as you're life flies high
But before you know it, you've fallen as your life flashes before you're lies

And the lights, just march, on by
And the crowd, they walk, and sigh
yet time, is slow,

Feel the world on my hands
trust insentives of a band
cos' the weight is thick and thin
drop it now and destroy whats in

So pick up the pace and enjoy the race cos' nothing-ness is nice
and feel the dance, and feel the mood while you're munching on that slice
don't have to spit out you're thumb or the wriggleys gum cos' theyre both a waste of time
but dont crush the bird, just for fun, cos' thats not fun for every one

And the lights, just march, on by
And the crowd, they walk, and sigh
yet time, is slow,

Feel the world on my hands
trust insentives of a band
cos' the weight is thick and thin
drop it now and destroy whats in

(lets go!)

So pick up the pace and enjoy the race cos' nothing-ness is nice
and feel the dance, and feel the mood while you're munching on that slice
don't have to spit out you're thumb or the wriggleys gum because theyre both a waste of time
but dont crush the bird, just for fun, cos' thats not fun for every one

Alright, I have sort of a dumb question. The line, "don't crush the bird, just for fun, cos' thats not fun for every one!" Is that some sort of Brit slang (my friend and I [neither of us are British obv] though "bird" = random girl, "crushing the bird" = having sex), or is it actually supposed to be taken literally?

'spit out your thumb or the Wrigleys gum'... these lyrics seem to have a different meaning every time I listen to them. I love the whole album, and I especially love his voice... it's first album I've bought
(okay, so that does include Natasha Beddingfield and Sugababes, admittedly) where EVERY song is a delectable adventure. Except maybe 'Buttercups'. I listened to the album whilst reading Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales... I recommend the combination to anyone... they go together like bangers and mash!
