Red River Valley Lyrics
From this valley they say you are going,
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile.
For they say you are taking the sunshine,
That had brightened all our pathways for a while.
Come and sit by my side if you love me.
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the red river valley,
And the cowboy who loved you so true.
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile.
For they say you are taking the sunshine,
That had brightened all our pathways for a while.
Do not hasten to bid me adieu,
But remember the red river valley,
And the cowboy who loved you so true.

Reminds me of Streets of Laredo
I think it's "pathways" not "bad ways."
Before the days of radio and TV this was one of the most travelled songs in the North of the American continent. The journey started in the late 19th Century in the provinces of Canada, made its way across the USA and became known as a Texas cowboy song. The lyrics altered a little but not much and some of the original would not be thought well of in todays politically correct world. The Red River in the song is in Manitoba and is sung by a native Canadian to her British sweetheart whose stay in the Red River Valley now over. In reality it is anyone in love whose partner must leave them with the warmth of love still in their heart.
