The End Of The End Lyrics
At the end of the end
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And this wasn't bad
So a much better place
would have to be special
No need to be sad
On the day that I die I'd like jokes to be told
And stories of old to be rolled out like carpets
That children have played on
And laid on while listening to stories of old
At the end of the end
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And a much better place
Would have to be special
No reason to cry
(whistling)
On the day that I die I'd like bells to be rung
And songs that were sung to be hung out like blankets
That lovers have played on
And laid on while listening to songs that were sung
At the end of the end
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And a much better place
Would have to be special
No reason to cry
No need to be sad
At the end of the end
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And this wasn't bad
So a much better place
would have to be special
No need to be sad
And stories of old to be rolled out like carpets
That children have played on
And laid on while listening to stories of old
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And a much better place
Would have to be special
No reason to cry
And songs that were sung to be hung out like blankets
That lovers have played on
And laid on while listening to songs that were sung
It's the start of a journey
To a much better place
And a much better place
Would have to be special
No reason to cry
No need to be sad
At the end of the end

Awesome spiritual song. It makes me think of A Change Gonna Come by Sam Cooke. Is Paul getting serious about the meaning of life? The best of the Beatles music was about yearning for what was best. Paul has returned to his roots here. Rock music derived from Gospel. The Book of Ecclesiastes says that "He has placed eternity in the hearts of men." Paul is finally expressing here what everyone thinks about when they lie awake at night in bed. We're all mortal. What are we here for? There has to be more than just this. God bless him.
trapperjohn10 I think you are such a good person.
There's a lot of love in this room ;o)
A lovely song about mortality, Macca kinda describing how he'd like his funeral to be, I suppose, and what he hopes for his legacy - that the songs will be "hung out like blankets the lovers have played on, and laid on while listening to the songs that were sung".
Beautiful stuff, and it must be an incredible feeling (which comes across in the blissful music) to know that you WILL have such a legacy, and these songs you've created and the life you've led will be remembered for all time, and will bring joy for many years to come.
