House Of Wax Lyrics
Lightning hits the house of wax
Poets spill out on the street
To set alight the incomplete
Remainders of the future
Hidden in the yard. Hidden in the yard.
Thunder drowns the trumpets blast
Poets scatter through the night
But they can only dream of flight
Away from their confusion
Hidden in the yard. Underneath the wall
Buried deep below a thousand layers lay
the answer to it all
Lightning hits the house of wax
Woman scream and run around
To dance upon the battleground
Like wild demented horses
Hidden in the yard. Underneath the wall
Buried deep below a thousand layers lay
the answer to it all
Poets spill out on the street
To set alight the incomplete
Remainders of the future
Poets scatter through the night
But they can only dream of flight
Away from their confusion
Buried deep below a thousand layers lay
the answer to it all
Woman scream and run around
To dance upon the battleground
Like wild demented horses
Buried deep below a thousand layers lay
the answer to it all

Reminiscent of George's lines from Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man, "When the truth gets buried deep, beneath a thousand years of sleep, time demands a turn around, and once again the truth is found".
One of my favorite songs. I feel this song is speaking of people that analyze or think as philosophers do and realizing their beliefs were inaccurate. Poets are the people that think as mentioned twice in the song. The second time it's mentioned, "Poets scatter through the night But they can only dream of flight Away from their confusion," seems to point out their realization that they were wrong. I think of John Lennon's song, GOD, when he sings, "I don't believe in Jesus....I just believe in me," or in Imagine, "imagine there's no heaven......and no religion too." I think this is the confusion that McCartney writes about.
