Throwin' Shapes Lyrics

Maybe come with me to the coast
And watch the way the rain comes down
Out of the shadow she's more passionate,
We'll watch her roll in from the south

She'll wrap her sheets 'round us
Forget the sun

Moving from sea to land dancing,
Swinging with the boats out there
She steps on toes if she wants to,
No one's saying no she wouldn't care

She'll wrap her sheets 'round us
Forget the sun
She'll wrap her sheets 'round us
She leads this one

Would you go in?
She'd have soaked us wet
Her fingers touching bare skin,
It makes you miss him

ohnoodles are you serious?! It makes me sad that you feel that way because I think this album is amazing and Minus The Bear are just maturing and experimenting even further with their music. And I think it's a very, very good thing.

i think that the "her" mentioned in this song could be fog or a rainstorm, maybe that time time when you don't know if it will piss rain or not. the "sheets" could be clouds or fog that block the sun completely. since mtb is from seattle, i'm sure there are lots of places where they hang out that give a good view of a harbor or open water, which explains their mention of boats. and the line with "soaked with sweat" could be referring to condensation or something from fog. maybe im stretching things way too far, but i figured id post it.

I think you're absolutely right. After listening to this song countless times the metaphor of the "she" in the song being the weather, the sea, or even just water, makes absolute sense. The "sheets" being either torrents of rain or waves, the notion of dancing, it's all there. I think the stepping on toes part refers to how the weather can get to be a nuisance, especially in places where it rains so frequently such as Seattle, but people just get on with their lives and come to accept and even cherish it.

no, Stupendous Man, the last verse is correct the way it is.

and i kind of think that this song is about how an ex-girlfriend is taken to the beach by a new dude who is trying to woo her and being poetic about taking her to the beach while its raining. and i think the very last verse backs up this claim.

i think the guy refers to "her" as the storm, "Would you go in? She'd have us soaked wet."

but to the girl, the storm reminds her of his touch. "Her fingers touching bare skin, makes you miss him."

that's my take on this song. guy trying to impress a girl only reminds her of "his" touch.

i can't see how any Minus the Bear fans dislike this album. or Menos El Oso for that matter. i have all their songs and i can listen to all them through and through and not be sick of it by any means. this band is seriously amazing.

i know this next comment may get some negative feedback, but i like to think sometimes (especially after listening to Planet of Ice) that Minus the Bear is a modern Pink Floyd. seriously, listen to Lotus and tell me that it doesn't sound like a take on some Pink Floyd, it's absolutely amazing and these guys are geniuses and absolutely amazing musicians.

I felt the same way when hearing "Lotus" for the first time. Very Floyd-ish.

WORD! you took the words out of my mouth in many a sense.

this song is beautiful.

Cover art for Throwin' Shapes lyrics by Minus the Bear

starts with "maybe" not hey man

and second stanza should be: moving from sea to land dancing swinging with the boats out there she steps on toes if she wants to no one's saying no--she wouldn't care

and the last part before the last chorus is something like: would you go in? she is soaked with sweat or she is so..something fingers touching men's lips makes you miss him

the last part is

fingers toughing bare skin makes you miss him.

if you listen to the acoustic version its more clear.

I had the same feeling with Menos el Oso to be honest. It took some major adjusting to like that one. I will take a few listenthroughs to get really adjusted to this one, but I get to see them for free this semester, go free college concerts! MtB comes about once a year to FSU, I love it.
