Rowboat Lyrics

I've been told I'm living a lie
I've been taught all my life

I haven’t got more than one dress mostly
I wear it out walking to work
Who else am I?
Getting it wrong almost every time
Where else, where else am I?
Living alone in my head

Rowboat left in the rain
Drifting out on the lake
Where could my one love be?
Oh rowboat left in the rain
Drifting by on the lake
Rescue my one love from the grave

i love the lines about the rowboat. i always picture a dark old deteriorating canoe that is drifting by empty and aimlessly as the moonlight hits it. it reminds alot of one scene of the opening theme for the show "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" anybody know wat im talking about?

I love the way she sings this song. especially, 'where could my one love be?' that ahhhh, that follows that line is.. so beautiful.

Haven't really figured out what this could be about..

You're right about the last line. I think I changed it but someone changed it back. I dunno.

the first lines of the song, go like this:

I've been told I'm living a lie I've been taught all my life (x2)

about her dad?

The trumpet reminds me of Suicide is Painless (the MASH theme).

This is beautiful, as is the rest of this compilation.

I feel like a major theme is realizing you've lost something you didn't know you had. It's about letting let something die without knowing it existed, and wanting to resurrect it.

by the way, i think this song is about going insane after someone's death, and wanting them back. i also agree with seahighster's interpretation.

It just struck me reading the lyrics that maybe the first two stanzas could be referencing that you are no one in particular, or that you are just stuck in solitude that you connect to no one and are a spec to anyone else

"living a lie i've been taught all my life." I didn't realize it was "taught"

Not sure if i can word that out right, or agree with it. an idea none the less.

and i feel like it being about someone leaving and missing that is just too obvious for hte last part.
