A Bird's Song Lyrics

When I would play my song, you used to sing along
I always seem to forget how fragile are the very strong
I'm sorry I can't steal you, I'm sorry I can't stay
So I'll put band-aids on your knees and watch you fly away

I'm sending you away tonight
I'll put you on a bird's strong wing
I'm saving you the best way I know how
I hope again one day to hear you sing

You know we're not so far away
Get on a boat, get on a train
And if you ever think you're drowning
I'll try to slow the rain

In two years or so
Drop me a line, write me a letter
I hope to find you're doing better
Better than today, better every day

I'm sending you away tonight
I'll put you on a bird's strong wing
I'm saving you the best way I know how
I hope again one day to hear you sing

I'm saving you the only way that I know how
I hope again one day to hear you sing
I hope again one day to see you
Bring your smile back around again

My interpretation is that Ingrid is singing about someone she loves. I think its a man, who everyone sees as strong, but she knows him better than they do, and she knows his weakness. She also knows she can't help him, there may be many reasons why. But she "sends him away" so that he can help himself. Because the only people we can truly change is ourselves. Although this hurts her, she wants to have him back in her life, and perhaps this is the only way. To let go of him now, and hope things will change. Its all about hope, and faith that things will work out.

I lost my daughther in June, she was very sick but fought hard "I always seem to forget How fragile are the very strong." We had to let her go, we removed her breathing tube.

"I'm sending you away tonight I'll put you on a bird's strong wing I'm saving you the best way I know how I hope again one day to hear you sing I'm saving you the only way that I know how I hope again one day to hear you sing I hope again one day to see you bring your smile back around again "

I hope to get her back one day...

I think that this song is about a man who she loves, perhaps her best friend, and they are a very hard person to get to know, but she's done it. She, too, sometimes gets lost in his facade of "everything is fine," but then she remembers how hurt he really is (I always seem to forget, how fragile are the very strong). She loves him in a way that he doesn't love her back, perhaps because he loves someone else who has broken his heart, so she must send him away in order for him to heal, but also in order for her to heal. She wants to regain contact with him someday, and hopefully he's "better, better than today."

The song can portray a mother not being able to keep her child. Maybe going through a divorce and not being able to keep her child. And she's staying positive to for her kid which is heartbreaking. A song about letting go being the only option.

wow i got a totally different thing from this song (which I love btw). To me it was about a girl who has a close friend who has fallen for her--and she doesn't feel the same way. The best way for her to protect him and his heart is to say good-bye. "I always seem to forget how fragile are the 'very strong'"...the very strong seems to me that it could be referring to men in general, being sometimes considered (whether wrong or right) the stronger sex. But she's also saying that hopefully someday she'll have the friendship back, someday when he's over her and capable of it. Amazing lyrics...I think it's really neat that we can get completely different things from it. It is definately a song about letting go being the only option though--for both their sakes'...but mostly the other parties. Be that a child...friend...previous boyfriend...etc.

Hmm. I agree with those who said it was about a mother not being able to keep her child. I think the line "I'm saving you the best way I know how" has something to do with the mother knowing that if her child is kept with her, the child wouldn't have a good life. So she's saving her child the best way she knows how by giving them away.
