Little Cream Soda Lyrics

[1, 2, 3, 4!]

Well, every highway that I go down seems to be longer than the last one that I knew about, oh well

And every girl that I walk around seems to be more of an illusion than the last one that I found, oh well

And this old man in front of me
wearing canes and ruby rings
it's like containing an explosion when he sings

With every chance to set himself on fire, he just ends up doing the same thing

Well, each beautiful thing I come across tells me to stop moving and shake this riddle off, oh well

And there was a time when all I wanted was my ice cream cold and a little cream soda, oh well, oh well

And a wooden box and an alley full of rocks was all I had to care about, oh well, oh well, oh well

Now my mind is filled with rubber tires and forest fires and whether I'm a liar and lots of other situations where I don't know what to do
At which time God screams to me
There's nothing left for me to tell you

Nothing left for me to tell you
Nothing left
Oh well, oh well, oh well
Oh well
Oh well, oh well, oh well
Oh well

The old man is him. This song is about recognizing that childhood is over, boyhood is gone. Every highway longer. Every girl less real than the last girl. Every chance for radical change lost. He just ends up doing the same thing. He lost the simple days when pleasure was a favorite drink and worry was finishing your icecream. He lost his sense of place, his box and rock filled alley are long gone.

Now he sees the horrors of the world, the horrors of the self (am I a liar?), and the horrors of the self in the world.

This is where God gives up screaming: There is nothing left. I can only show you the world, the self, and the self in the world.

TO God's horror Jack can only say, "oh well"

@Ultranaut - I mostly agree but I don't think god "gives up". I think god is just saying "There's nothing left to tell" - He has given us the answers, it is up to us to understand. I'm being pedantic here but the message is slightly more positive than your otherwise correct interpretation. God is not horrified he means for us to understand - oh well

For everyone that's stating 'this song is about Jack taking the band in a different direction after the previous albums' - This song has been played live since 2003. I have a bootleg of it as it was originally named 'Jack's Prayer' with a slight difference in the lyrics but not much. Just thought you'd be interested :)

"Oh Well"

I think it is about people seeing the world around them and being apathetic to the issues. They see but don't care.

Love tha riff

The lyric is "It's like containing an explosion when he sings."

I think this song is about wanting to child because when you grow up you realize how scary and complicated the world is.

may i suggest changing "ow" to "oh"

I think its "And there's this old man in front of me wearing canes and ruby rings and its like ____ explosion when he sings"

"And with every chance to set himself on fire, he just end up doin' the same thing"

I think the line you don't have in the middle is "Well, each beautiful thing I come across tells me to stop moving and shake this riddle off, oh well.

It's "my ice cream cone"

Your second line of questionmarks is "Now my mind is filled with rubber tires and forest fires and whether I’m a liar/And lots of other situations/Where I don’t know what to do/At which time God screams to me/There’s nothing left for me to tell you/Oh well, oh well, oh well, oh well"

interesting that they have another 'little' song on the new album. As someone pointed out (in little acorns i believe) they have a 'little' song on almost, if not all, of their albums. I can't wait for this one to come, it sounds really cool, esp. this song, I think it will be the best.

The song to me reads like it's nostalgia for a younger age when you didn't have anything to worry about, except maybe ice cream. The 'each beautiful...' sounds like everyone is telling him to stop worrying and just keep going. In the end with his 'oh well' it seems that is just the advice he takes.

they do! i noticed that on white blood cells every song starting with i wasn't capitalized either
