The Bank Lyrics

Whatever it is spit it into a bottle and sell it to me
I’m looking to buy freedom from my sobriety
Just like Huey Lewis

I need a new drug
I need a new drink
I need a new drug that does what it should

So take me to the bank
Take me to the bar
Can you take me to the hot spot?
This is what we worked so hard to afford but...

Take me to the bank
Can you take me to the bar?
Can you take me to the hot spot?
This is what we worked so hard to afford but how I wanna hide

The next time you visit me here
How about coming out to my place
We can sit on the floor and play my brother’s records
We can sit on the grownup bed

Couple with the coin
Lighting up to join the coping crowd
My big brother said to stay unsatisfied
Never work a day to pay off your desire
Couple with the coin
Lighting up to join the coping crowd

well I guess I will leave a comment... I love this song. I can totally relate with the lines, "Looking by freedom for my sobriety" and "Lighting up to join the coping crowd".... and I just love the essence of the line, "We can sit on the floor and play my brothers records".... and although it may be in a different context, I also can really relate to the line, "My big brother said to stay unsatisfied". This song is really nice, I love the lyrics and beat/sound of it. This song tackles the subjects of drug use, our "coping" society, finding happiness, materialism, and perhaps even other underlying subject matters. This song, in my opinion, is amazing.

she's clearly very versed in history as she mentioned Huey Lewis in this song...and the "legend of the bra burning" in The Lottery. very cool.

Hhalmark got it right for the most part, I'd go a bit further as say this song is a meditation on materialism as an ethos. In essence, the notion that happiness can (and should) be purchased. "This is what we worked so hard to afford" suggests that the purpose of the mentioned work is to strictly to be able to afford "the bar" and "the hotspot." Haines sums it up with the lines "My big brother said to stay unsatisfied / Never work a day to pay off pure desire." This is a key line that is mistakenly listed here as "your desire." Pure desire is important because it suggest that it is nothing more than desire, with no real need attached to it.

totally agree with you ! http://youtube.com/watch?v=mYOWCwI59MU Huey Lewis - I Want A New Drug Emily uses the line "I NEED a new drug" in this song. this song (the one i linked) sounds nothing like The Bank by the way, and i'm suprised that Emily referenced it. although at the same time i'm not suprised since we all know how eclectic Emily's taste is.

I love this song. Every time I hear "Whatever it is spit it into a bottle and sell it to me", I think of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, where there's a guy who says to sell him something in a bottle with C. Wow. I feel like a geek.Either way, a great, catchy song.
