I raise my head in a touchy situation
(Mr. Skin, you know where you've been)
Yes, I make my bed in the heart of the nation
(Mr. Skin, you know where you've been)
I know its a trait of human love to make all the people holler
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Send them looking out for their woman
Send them reaching out for their dollar
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
A, Hey, hey
Oh, I'm rolling flowing through the whole population
(Mr. Skin you know where you've been)
Oh, The high and the low born are my friends and relations
(Mr. Skin you know where you've been)
I can bring you pain I can bring you sudden pleasure
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Your life will only gain if your loves final measure
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Ah Mr. Mr. Skin, you know where you've been
Ah Mr. Mr. Skin, you know where you've been
Ah Mr. Mr. Skin, you know where you've been (repeat to fade)
(Mr. Skin, you know where you've been)
Yes, I make my bed in the heart of the nation
(Mr. Skin, you know where you've been)
I know its a trait of human love to make all the people holler
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Send them looking out for their woman
Send them reaching out for their dollar
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
A, Hey, hey
(Mr. Skin you know where you've been)
Oh, The high and the low born are my friends and relations

It's about a drummer. Or maybe "the" drummer, the old bald guy.
Not old in today's rock and roll world but back then he was like ancient. In his late 50s, god that was old for a rock star in the early 70s.
zaqwert is right, this song is about Ed Cassidy the drummer & father-inlaw of Randy California! http://ultimateclassicrock.com/spirit-drummer-ed-cassidy-dead-at-89/
I have been intrigued by this song for decades. I don’t really have a clue what it is about but I have always thought that the singer is relating how difficult it is to walk around in one’s own skin. Our protagonist seems to lament past decisions and perhaps future choices. Undoubtedly this is one cool song and I am glad someone finally put up more Spirit lyrics.
This is gonna sound really weird but whenever I've heard this song over the (many, many) years I've always thought "Mr. Skin is a PENIS". Read it over again... makes sense, doesn't it!?
I always though it was about a "snake", as in devil, slithering through the population to corrupt & reward those who are unaware that love is the real solution & salvation for the world.
I'm a little surprised that anyone might interpret this song as about anything other than sexual intercourse.
