Juliet Lyrics

Follow me down to the edge of the town
The edge of the town where the graves are
Swallowed in weeds in the throws of those trees
The throws of the trees where my heart lies

You can be my one if you wanna go
You can be my Juliet then
And we can drift asleep in a lover's pose
But never go away
No poison here we're safe

Follow me down to the kingdom around
The edge of now where the tracks are
Swallowed in weeds in the throws of those trees
The throws of the trees where my soul lies

You can be my one if you wanna go
You can be Ophelia and then
And into the water we will go
But never float away
No never float

I know the bonds will grow with every passing wave
Star-crossed but we'll never toss the strength of the poet's page
I know...

Juliet...
Juliet...

You can be my one if you wanna go
You can be my Juliet then
And we can drift asleep in a lover's pose
But never know
You can be my one if you wanna go
You can be my Juliet then
And we can drift asleep in a lover's pose
But never close our eyes
No we will survive

This song seems to be about a guy who has lost his love, judging by the reference to Ophelia as well as Juliet. I think it's speaking about someone dear to him who has passed and he is saying they will be safe with him always. The lines "No poison here we're safe" and "But never float away" are speaking to the ways in which both of Shakespeare's characters died: Juliet by poison and Ophelia by drowning. He's saying that she may be gone, but he will keep her safe from whatever it is that led to her death.

Song Meaning
Cover art for Juliet lyrics by Royal Wood

Royal Woods did a beautiful job of saying something beautiful in a simple way.

The meaning is so similar to "I will follow you into the dark" by death cab for cutie. He's saying to the woman he loves that she can follow him to the grave yard where his heart lies. And there no one can hurt them. If she wants, she'll be his one and they will drift asleep in a lovers pose.

In the second verse he says:

Follow me down to the kingdom around The edge of now where the tracks are Swallowed in weeds in the throws of those trees The throws of the trees where my soul lies

They're dead, but his soul is alive in the throws of the trees.

You can be my one if you wanna go You can be my Juliet then And we can drift asleep in a lover's pose But never close our eyes

They'll be together forever if she wants. They'll drift asleep in a lovers pose but never close their eyes.
