12 Hours Lyrics

Spent 12 hours drinking, slept with Someone that,
Looked like you.
We got up early, in the afternoon.
Her eyes were sweet,
But how could she,
Know that we had wandered
Down a dead-end street?

And I couldn’t see,
what it was that reminded you to me,
So we walked up to King St for goodbye.
We kissed on the corner and I hailed her a cab,
And I thought of you reading across the town in the park.

You don’t care now,
You never will.
If they let me into heaven, they can close down hell

Some they drown their sorrows,
mine they like to swim
Pour another one barman
‘Cause the rodent got back in.
Pour another one barman
‘Cause the rodent got back in.

i'm pretty sure i read somewhere that the 'rodent' of the last lines is john howard, in reference to him being re-elected as prime minister one year. but i could be wrong.

I love this song.(seeing as i submitted it, thats fairly obvious) I love the way that it seems as if the singer is living his life trying to get over this girl. And he just can't... When he gets drunk, he sleeps with a girl because she LOOKS like his lost love. Then when he says goodbye to this girl (because he can't tell why she reminded him of his love) he thinks about his love and what she's doing at this moment.

He drinks to try and get over her (pour another one, because the rodent got back in)

pretty close, yeah. but it's a past love, as signified in the previous track on the album (see 'Tonight')
