This song has been on repeat all day long. I think this song is between to friends or lovers. One is dying and the other is coming to grips with it. The phrase, "we'll meet along the way, I know" says to me that she is looking forward to seing them in the afterlife. The second verse I interpret as the deceased/spirit telling the survivor to keep living and that later it will be her time. They WILL meet again along the way.

My Interpretation

It is a conversation between them. The first verse is the friend to the one dying telling her not to fight death; to "go easy now," and that later on he will join her when he lays his body down. The second verse the deceased is telling the friend to continue on and live a full life but later he too will have his world fall apart and the two will meet again to continue their journey.

I used this song in a mix I put together for my wife's grandfather's funeral. It actually ended up playing right as the priest was approaching the body to bless it, a really prominent placement, and just seemed perfect.
